Life Versus Heartache

Heartache ... pain ... loss ... regret. These are all emotions that visit men and women, and sometimes it seems they take up permanent residence. These emotions are all associated with the worst that life has to offer.
The worst of life is on full display in our lesson as Pharaoh and the people of Egypt learn a bitter lesson all too late. Disobedience of the Lord carries tragic consequences. Conversely, the Israelites learned a valuable lesson - obeying the Lord's commands invites his presence, protection and favor.
I am not saying that God's faithful never experience pain. I am saying that just as the people of Israel obeyed God's commands to cover their door frames with the blood of the sacrificial lamb and remain safely hidden from the destroyer, by obedience to God we are able to avoid many of the destroying pitfalls of this life. By following the Lord's instruction in worship, relationships, business, and moral living, etc., we will find natural protection from the results of many poor decisions. We reap what we sow.
Lord, help me to remember that your way brings life; my way brings heartache.
