Thunderstorms

We have had some weather over the past couple of years. News of tornados, hurricanes and flooding are becoming commonplace. Thunderstorms seem to come most afternoons. I love to stand on my porch and watch a storm. There is something so beautiful about the power and beauty of it. Thunder and lightning attract my attention and give me a sense of awe.
In this psalm, David is watching a thunderstorm (vv. 5-9) that causes him to ascribe glory to the LORD (vv. 1-2). As the thunder roars, David likens it to the voice of God. As the powerful wind breaks and twists trees, he cries, "Glory!" This great storm of thunder, lightning and rain reminds him of the King enthroned forever who blesses his people with strength and peace.
Storms come into our lives unexpectedly and violently at times. Disease, discouragement and death can splinter our lives to pieces. Can we stand in the midst of these storms in awestruck wonder over the glory and strength of the Lord? Let the storms attract your attention and give you a sense of awe due to him.
"Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness."
