Deuteronomy 30:1-14

By Thelma Davis Collins

“The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach” (Romans 10:8).

 Obedience and service were the key words in God’s requirements for Israel. To these, under grace, has been added a word of greater import, faith. Only as we believe in Christ and his redemptive work for us, as we obey and serve him, may we expect to have eternal life and share in the glory of the world to come.

It is strange that, in a time when faith in material things is strong, many find it hard to trust God not only for salvation, but for daily needs, for help in times of affliction, stress and temptation. As the Father called his ancient people to repent many times, being always ready to forgive their waywardness, so today he calls us to a deeper faith and more active service.

“The only cure for troubled days,

 For hours of fret and strain,

 When all seems wrong, and nothing right,

 And life is full of pain;

 Is to lie back on God and trust

 For future, present, past;

 He never breaks his promises;

 He’ll see us through at last.”
