“And, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
In New England, the hills are carpeted with constantly changing color. Squirrels are storing winter tidbits, while some birds head for warmer climates. It was not the natural world, however, that drew the supreme benediction of the Creator. It was man — male and female — upon whom God pronounced his great pleasure. They were “very good.” Despite the fact they would become deceitful and degenerate, to God they would always be very good. God would send his Son to die on Calvary to ensure that his “good day’s work” would not be in vain. When we accept God’s provision to make us “very good” then we become part of his “good day’s work.”
Father, thank you for your patient loving forgiveness of all our foolishness. Keep us ever mindful of the work of your son and his “good day’s work.” Amen.
