It has been said that there are two types of people in this world ... those facing trouble, and those who are about to face trouble. Sometimes life can become painful to the point of desperation. Job knew that kind of pain. What made it almost unbearable was his inability to understand why God had not rescued him. The question plagues us all: why do bad things happen?
Sometimes struggles come as a direct result of poor choices. We understand reaping difficulty if we have sown it. The simple answer is sin. Choices made affect more than the individual, often spilling out painful consequences on all who are near. The other aspect of sin is that it has entirely affected this fallen world, and evil exists in the form of struggle, sickness and even death. Job was wrestling with it all.
The reality is that our Lord will "never leave us, nor forsake us," and he is "an ever-present help" in times of trouble. These truths remain true despite our circumstances.
Lord, help me refuse to let life's pain obscure your unfailing love for me.
