Abram was going where God told him to go, taking Lot and his family with him. Traveling together, God had blessed them so that the land could not contain them. When their possessions were so great they could no longer dwell together, strife came between them. Abram did not want strife among him and Lot and their headman. Abram told Lot to choose which way to go. Lot chose to go forth and live in the cities of the valley as far as Sodom. Abram settled in Canaan.
Matthew 7:13-14 reminds us that we have choices today. We can walk the wide road that leads to destruction and death, not giving any thought to our eternal home. Or we can take the narrow road that leads to eternal life; those who choose this narrow road have hope, for the Lord knows their way and blesses them. They hear God speak and know where he is leading; they do not fear death because they will live again for eternity. Their lives are not easy, yet so rewarding. Walking in the light of his love is a life worth living.
