The Real Reason Behind our Excuses
Wednesday, July 12, 2017

Exodus 4:6-17
God was very patient with Moses as he offered up his excuses and graciously gave him answers for each one. But when he finally runs out of excuses Moses exposes the real attitude of his heart in his request to the Lord, "Please send someone else to do it." We can appreciate Moses' reluctance in obedience, who doubtless remembered fleeing from Pharaoh in disgrace 40 years earlier. But according to Acts 7:22 "Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds." So the bottom line was he really didn't want to do it, and that made God angry.

The reasons we give to God for our unwillingness to obey his commands always stirs up his wrath, and the blessings God intended to give to us will be given to someone else. A ready willingness to obey our Lord's commands is always far better for us than offering excuses.

What's your excuse for not doing what God asks? Remember, Billy Sunday declared that "an excuse is the skin of a reason stuffed with a lie."
