How blessed was King Solomon to reign over Israel! A queen from Sheba heard of his fame and came with gifts. Was this to win an audience with him and his kingdom? Solomon was no stranger to protocol, so no "stuff" could sway him. Soon this same queen was testing his faith in God with hard questions about his name. She became his confidante. They shared their hearts. Was Her Majesty truly impressed with his reputation and riches? That's possible, except she herself had brought him a bounty of gifts, so she was acquainted with such conventions. Perhaps she was challenging his good standing and wisdom by probing to discover truths about him with her own eyes and ears. Whatever, her exclamation about Solomon's acts, wisdom and prosperity is legendary: "Indeed, the half has not been told."
Ultimately the queen was swayed by the king and his royal trappings. On parting, she gave him an unparalleled abundance of gold, spices and precious stones. Solomon in turn gave her whatever she desired. A sequel to the story discloses a weakness in Solomon that ultimately drew him to pagan gods. He may have met his match when the queen came to call!
Exodus 20:3 and 4. "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image ... thou shalt not bow down thyself to serve them ... " Beware of false gods!
