Three WNSC athletes attended the recent Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games competing in a sport that is not often seen, Snowshoe Biathlon. Along with preparing the athletes, the team had to source the traditional gear necessary to compete. Finding footwear that did not include any synthetic materials was the biggest challenge. Mukluk kits were eventually sourced in Ontario. Next came the real test ... finding someone to assemble and sew the pieces! A huge shout out goes to two local ladies who came to the rescue, doing a remarkable job in a very short time. The Club biathlon program and Team Alberta North want to recognize Janis Steinke and Gail Schau who saved the day and sent our athletes to the games in function and style! |
