What Or Who Is Truth?

Pilate asked Jesus a simple question: What is truth? (John 18:38)

In today's context trying to understand what is true and what is not true seems like a full-time job. Whenever something happens there seems to be those out there that are more interested in "disrupting" our life by putting out stories that challenge the "narrative" than helping us understand what really happened. We can spend days sifting through news stories of eye witness accounts trying to piece together the truth of it all. It is tiring!

Please sign up in the narthex to bring a pot of soup!

From Roger: 2018 Youth Auction Was a Huge Success!
Many, many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2018 Youth Auction! Over $30,000 was raised and over 150 people attended this annual event. This was the most dollars raised at any First Lutheran Youth Auction ever!  Fergus Prestbye once again did an outstanding job as our auctioneer. To the over 35 youth and adults who helped with this year’s auction, thank you again for all of your hard work and efforts!

We are richly blessed to have such a strong response from the congregation. The generosity and support to the children, youth and family ministries is truly amazing and extremely gratifying!

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the Gospel, from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion, until the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:3-6

I want to express my sincere and heartfelt thanks and appreciation for your generous support of our young people!
March 2018

Happy 132nd Birthday to First Lutheran Church of Bothell on March 14!

One hundred thirty two years ago seven families, 43 people, met at the home (log cabin) of Jacob Hammer and voted to become the Norwegian Danish Evangelical Lutheran Molde Congregation Of King County Washington . The Reverend Nil Nilson was our first pastor.

On March 18th, 2018 we will celebrate with the dedication of the new bell tower.

The scanning work days continued in January and February 2018. We successfully completed hundreds of pages of our church history including the annual meetings, Molde- Ladies Aid, pictorial directories, anniversary celebrations - l909-l950. Thank you to our 2018 scanners: Karen Johnson, Margaret Turcott, Clint Bastin, Ron Sailer, Bob Beckstron, Scott Eiler, Stephanie Conroy, Donna Gilbery, Ann Aagaard, with the help of Andrew Phelps our technical computer expert.

Nine 2017 Show Us Your Summer photographs are now on display in our library. Over 30 new books have been added to our library collection, including the Augsburg Publishing gift of books for the 500th anniversary of Reformation.

Check it out!
Bell Tower Dedication
The new bell tower dedication will be on March 18 at 9:45. Please plan to join the celebration!
If you haven't already joined Amazon Smile, this a great time!

3x your impact! From March 12-31, Amazon is tripling the donation rate on your first purchase! Go to and Amazon donates to First Lutheran Church of Bothell. If you are a prime member, Amazon Smile works exactly the same. Proceeds are used by the Social Ministries committee for outreach programs.
Social Ministry Update
March Outreach
Money deposited in the Change for Change jar will be used to support Hopelink's food bank.

The focus of donations to the Hopelink grocery cart will be for personal products (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
March Monthly Outreach: $1,100.00 will go to Open Door Ministries .
Looking Ahead: Callings All Towels!

In April, the Social Ministries Committee is conducting a Towel Drive to benefit Compass Housing Alliance. Towels of all sizes are needed: bath, hand, wash cloth, and kitchen towels. They don't need to be new, but need to be serviceable. Here's the perfect opportunity to replace those towels that no longer fit your color scheme, or that you rarely use. They will be welcomed and put to use in Compass’ women's programs, men's and women's hygiene center, emergency shelter for women, First Church Men's Overnight Shelter, and at their transitional housing facility.

Compass can also use individual size (like those from hotels/motels) shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc.

Anytime in April, please place your towel (and toiletries) donations in the designated receptacle in the narthex caring corner. Your gift will touch many lives. Thank you for taking care of the needs of others.
Scrip and Other Passive Fundraising for First Lutheran Church!
We have several opportunities for earning money while you shop for FLC's many social ministry programs:
  1. Buy Scrip on Sunday mornings or sign up for Shop with Scrip. Many vendors are available for instant purchase and redemption from your mobile phone in the Shop with Scrip program. No more writing checks; the money is automatically deducted from your checking account using Presto Pay. (The profit margin for scrip is not great enough to support credit card payments.) Scrip returns anywhere from 3 - 12% of your purchases to FLC! You can buy grocery cards, movie tickets, Amazon, even Groupon - the list is great!
  2. Sign up for Amazon Smile and name First Lutheran Church as your charity. Every time you shop with Amazon Smile FLC receive .05% of your purchase price. You can still use Amazon Prime. Get your kids to sign up, too!
  3. Link your Fred Meyer rewards card to their Community Rewards program for First Lutheran Church. All of your purchases will result in a quarterly donation to FLC.
  4. Sign up for Bartell's B Caring Program, and name First Lutheran Church as your charity.
