Responding to The Primary Care Workforce Challenge
The FMEC is actively working to increase the number of medical students who choose careers in Family Medicine. We hold quarterly meetings that help us to identify specific actions we can take to address this issue. All are welcome to attend. Click below to view our playlist on youtube:
The Department of Education offers a number of different payment plans other than the standard one assigned when you enter repayment. Many are related to how much money you make, they are called Income-Driven Repayment plans (or IDRs). Each of them has somewhat different terms and qualifications (Click here for more info on the different IDR plans.)
Each of these plans qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness after 120 qualifying payments. If you are not pursuing that option, you pay over the course of 20-25 years. Not every plan is available to every borrower and--for those who have the option to choose--there are pros and cons to each of them. Student loan repayment is complex and specific.
