March Madness Watch Party

Thursday, March 20, 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Bring your brackets and come watch the First Round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament with us! Cheer on your teams on the big screen while you enjoy light snacks. BYOB and feel free to bring your own dinner. We’ll also have ping pong tables set up to work out some nervous energy.

Come prepared to buy tickets to our raffle for a chance to win four tickets to an upcoming Phillies game!

This event is free but please RSVP in advance. 

Rotary Arts Conversation with designer Susan Smythe

Friday, March 21, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Tap into the minds of some of the most creative talent in our community...Our guest this evening is Susan Smythe who has had a varied career as a designer of many things, ranging from costumes and buildings to design objects. In 2007, she created her own housewares and accessories company called Crooked Dog Designs.

The conversation is one hour, followed by a small reception with the artist. Ticket prices are $10; please purchase at the link provided.

Swarthmore Library Board of Trustees Meeting

Tues. 3/18, 7:15 pm, in-person and virtual. The public is welcome to attend all meetings. If you would like to attend virtually, please email director@swarthmorepubliclibrary.org for the meeting link.


Wild Philly: The Extraordinary Nature of Our Backyard (Tuesday, 3/25, 7 pm)

America's sixth largest city is home to an amazing abundance of surprising wildlife: the peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on earth; the coyote, a recent immigrant to Wild Philly; the beaver, once vanished and now making an astonishing comeback; and more. Meet some of the region's featured creatures! Writer-naturalist Mike Weilbacher will share all this and more, while answering your questions and selling and signing copies of his book Wild Philly, which offers a full year of the region's best nature walks. This program is free and open to everyone ages 18+.

Older teens and young adults with disabilities (plus their companions) are welcome to join us on the last Friday of each month for an evening of socializing and planned activities. Co-hosted by Artsability. This program is free and open to all those 16+. Our theme this month is music.

FLY BOYS

Our next Web Wanderings gathering will be Monday, March 3rd. We are stretching our celebration of Black History Month into March with the recognition of the amazing contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen. FLYBOYS is the story of the brave African-American soldiers who served their country during WWII. The film chronicles the “Tuskegee Airmen” program, a controversial military initiative designed to measure African-Americans’ competence for flying the engines of war.

Swarthmore Rotary Club Invites You!

The Rotary Club invites members and friends of SSCA to come to their weekly meetings and enjoy a lunch and the speaker. Meetings are on Thursdays from 12:15-1:30 p.m. at the Inn at Swarthmore. Lunch is $20 per person.
