With energy prices on the rise and fossil fuel resources becoming scarce, both economic prosperity and competitiveness increasingly depend on our ability to use energy as efficiently as possible.
That's the focus of a forum titled: A German Perspective on Building Energy which took place earlier this month in Boston. More than 60 participants attended the event, jointly sponsored by the GACC NY, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Boston and the Transatlantic Climate Bridge.
Presenters included Stefan Goebel, General Sales Manager, Arnold Glas, Corp., Kevin Flynn, Regional Sales Manager, New England Viessmann Manufacturing Co., and Chris Ford, Regional Sales Manager, NYC & Northeast, Schöck USA, Inc.
Germany enjoys a stellar reputation throughout the world for its high-quality technical products and practical expertise in the field of energy efficiency, and has established itself as an international market leader in the fields of energy efficiency and green buildings. Over the past years, the use of German products and technologies in the US building industry has grown consistently.

Seminar Addresses Implications of Recent US Tax Reform
|
|
Elisa Fay of RÖDL & PARTNER speaks on the implications of the new US tax reform.
|
More than 40 GACC NY members from various industries turned out this month for valuable insight and lively discussions on the US federal tax reform and how it impacts businesses and individuals. The event featured expert speakers from RÖDL & PARTNER and was held at the Manhattan office of
The featured presenters, Elisa Fay, Partner-In-Charge Rödl National Tax, Rödl & Partner USA (Atlanta) and Rick Kasnick, Managing Partner, Rödl & Partner New York City, elaborated on how these changes will impact the business of German companies and their subsidiaries in the US.
According to these experts, there are still many unanswered questions posing a challenge to any seamless implementation of the tax reform. In particular, the policies behind the changes and the intended goals of legislation don't always seem immediately clear. Tax specialists will be needed in the months ahead to navigate the new codes, especially those that will end to deductibility of certain expenses. A possible consequence is that these changes might end up not only eliminating traditional deductions for many tax payers; they could impact professional tax preparation and place more responsibility on the IRS down the road.
