8th Grade Panoramic Picture
Our annual 8th grade panoramic picture will happen on   Tuesday, March 21, during 7th period. 8th grade students received picture packets from their English teachers this week. If you'd like to order a panoramic picture, please return the form with payment to the Hillview Office.

Mini-Course Opportunities
Mini-Course week will be here soon, April 3-7. If your child has not yet returned the signed permission forms that were due last Friday, please send them in to Monica Bosch in the front office ASAP!

There are some great ways to help make this week successful for our eighth graders. You don't need an eighth grader to help out, and you may chaperone or donate for any course, even if your child is not enrolled in it. Be on the lookout for direct emails for your child's course, and future opportunities in the newsletter as we get closer.
  • Picture This! If you have a DSLR camera to loan for this wonderful photography course, please contact Jill Kispert.
Please email   [email protected] with any questions regarding mini-courses.

SamTrans Rider Survey
If you ride the SamTrans bus to and/or from school -- Bus 82, Bus 83, or Bus 84 -- please complete this   survey  to rate and describe your customer experience. This survey closes on   March 19.

Call for Service Award Nominations
Tell Us About an Exceptional Volunteer! Every year our District is fortunate to have parents, teachers, staff, and community volunteers give generously of their time, skills, and creativity to our schools. Many programs would not exist if not for this formidable group of volunteers, the "Pillars of our Community". Honorary Service Awards (HSAs) and School Service Awards (SSAs) recognize individuals who have contributed in an extraordinary way to our District. Please take a moment to nominate someone you know who goes above and beyond to make a difference in our schools. To nominate an individual, please complete the online nomination form  by April 1.

Hillview PTO Board Nominations
The Hillview PTO is actively recruiting volunteers to serve on the PTO Board and to fulfill other volunteer capacities for the 2017-2018 school year. The Board, with parent volunteers, works with Hillview's administrative and teaching staff to create and support vital school programs and events. Interested in learning more? Or know some great people who are just too shy to raise their hands? Feel free to nominate them as well. Please email  PTO Nominating to learn how you can get involved.

After-School Programs
Hillview's PTO is excited to offer its students a wide array of after-school programs this Winter/Spring! We have a few new program offerings, as well as, the returning favorites. We now offer both beginning and advanced Mandarin. Junior Chef Stars is offering a cooking and baking class starting in March and The M-A Wresting Coach is offering a fun Mat Club/Wresting class. There is something for every student's interest! Click on any of the links below to gather more specific information about each program, including a description of the program, registration links and pricing. Please keep in mind that each program will only be offered if the minimum student enrollment is reached. For more information, see  Hillview After-School Programs .
Questions? Contact  Kim Hinshaw, PTO After-School Programs Coordinator.

Eighth Grade Grad Party Volunteers Needed
Attention 8th grade parents!
8th Grade Grad Party planning is well underway, but we are in need of extra hands to help us! If you, or your spouse, is skilled with a hammer, paintbrush or scissors, we are looking for volunteers to help construct props and other decorations. Some tasks may be completed on your own, but we also plan to schedule a couple of work days in March and April. If interested, please email Gina Skinner or Sonya Fletcher for more details.
Please also keep a lookout in future newsletters for other volunteer requests. We hope to soon publish a wish list of items that we would love to borrow (or have donated!) from our parent community for this special party for the 8th graders.

For general information regarding the party or to donate, click here. Thank you!

March 16 Community Conversations
Join MPCSD's incoming Superintendent, Erik Burmeister, for one of two  Community Conversations around the new  California School Dashboard. Erik will present  the data to  the  community, as well as take questions and suggestions.

In addition, we'll talk about  the  results of  the  Measure X Parcel Tax election and how those  results will impact MPCSD  in  the short and long term.

Morning: March 16 at 10:30 a.m. in the TERC @ the District Office
OR
Evening: March 16 at 6:00 p.m.  in  the TERC @  the District Office

Refreshments will be served.

MPCSD Speaker Series: Parent Education Double Feature:  a great movie + a conversation with ALL 4 school principals & the incoming superintendent!
Join us for a screening of  Beyond Measure, the award-winning film from the makers of Race To Nowhere, followed by a panel discussion with the principals of ALL 4 Menlo Park schools - Oak Knoll, Encinal, Laurel and Hillview, moderated by incoming district superintendent, Erik Burmeister.

Beyond Measure sets out to challenge the assumptions of our current education story. Rather than ask why our students fail to measure up, this film asks us to reconsider the greater purpose of education. It looks at schools across the country that are breaking away from an outmoded, test-driven education and are shaping a new vision for classrooms. Beyond Measure offers a positive picture of what's possible in American education when communities decide they are ready for change.

As always, free childcare for potty-trained children and light refreshments for all attendees.

Missed our last event?  The video recording is up on our website. Please note: the film screening will not be videotaped.

Donate Used Sports Equipment Drive
Now extend ed until Monday, March 13. Do you have lightly used sports equipment cluttering your garage? Just in time for Spring Cleaning, the Hillview Service Team is collecting all types of gently used sports equipment every morning this week in the PAC lobby. The equipment will be donated to a local non-profit Fit Kids, that provides free sports and nutrition programs to underserved schools. FitKids will pass on the equipment to local youth who do not have equipment at home. We hope to collect athletic shoes (cleats, runners, etc.), basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, sports uniforms, and any other gently used sporting equipment. THANK YOU to all the families that donated last week! Questions? Email  [email protected].
