Come! Fly Away with Me!
After so many long months at home and alone, its time to make plans for meaningful experiences shared IN PERSON with others! I know many of you are already making your late 2021 and 2022 travel plans, so I want you to know about the opportunity to make a spirit-renewing pilgrimage to the Holy Land with me as we all venture out of the boat and onto the water. We will be departing on January 10, 2020 making this an ideal Christmas gift for yourself, one another, or in honor of that special graduation, birthday, or anniversary.

Our itinerary will begin with arrival in Amman, Jordan and the chance to visit Mount Nebo, where Moses caught a glimpse of the Promised Land. On a clear day, you can see all the way across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea, to the rooftops of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. We will continue to Madaba, and cross the border into Israel to visit Qumran, site of the Dead Sea Scrolls discovery, and Jericho to visit the ruins of the ancient city Joshua conquered. From Jericho, you can see the traditional site of the Temptation of Jesus that is part of our Lenten readings. In Israel we will experience Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Caesarea, Cana, Nazareth, Bet Shean, and the region of Galilee where we will share in Holy Communion aboard our boat as we float on the sea. After returning to Jordan we will visit Petra, home of the ancient Nabateans, before flying back home or continuing on an optional extension into Egypt to experience many of the wonders of the ancient world and cruise down the Nile. Our trip also includes an exciting new opportunity for a three-day optional pre-trip extension to the UAE to explore Old Dubai, New Dubai, and the amazing Gulf coast region of Abu Dhabi.

There will be an initial information meeting via ZOOM on Sunday, March 21, at 12:30. The ZOOM ID is 97974105423 or CLICK HERE to be CONNECTED.. There will be other info meeting opportunities in the future, but I want those of you early planners to have all the information now. There are also discounts with EO for early booking. Of course, you are also more than welcome to email or call me if you have questions (laraf@martinmethodist.org).

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am about this trip! As you may remember, I'd planned to offer a Martin trip a few years ago, but between my mother's illness and death and Erin being so young, I asked Terri to travel with our church's group and planned to offer another trip in 2020...well, you know how THAT went. So here we are - vaccines are increasingly plentiful and the world will quickly reopen. This is OUR time, and I hope you'll join me as we connect our faith and study of scripture with the overwhelming joy and awe of actually being in the land of our Lord. This will be my 5th (or is it 6th) trip to the Holy Land, and it never ceases to expand my understanding of the Bible and renew my soul. Come, experience (or re-experience) it anew with me!

I am so blessed to be your pastor,
