County Officials Urge Residents to Prepare Before a Storm Hits
Gloucester County Emergency Management officials are urging residents to be prepared for emergencies as the region moves into the spring severe weather season. The U.S. National Weather Service has deemed next week (March 14-20) to be Severe Weather Awareness Week, and Virginia’s annual Statewide Tornado Drill will take place on Tuesday, March 16 at 9:45 a.m.
Next week is also Flood Awareness Week. “This coming week is an ideal time to prepare for potential flooding ahead of spring rains and the upcoming hurricane season,” said Brent Payne, Gloucester’s Floodplain Administrator. “It is our hope that our residents will be informed about their own properties’ flood risks and the need for flood insurance.”

Gloucester Board of Supervisors Return to In-person Meetings
The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors has decided it will return to in-person meetings. Board members have expressed their desires to return to in-person meetings, especially to enhance public participation in the budget process for Fiscal Year 2021-2022.
Upcoming in-person meetings include:
- The Joint Work Session of the Board of Supervisors and the Gloucester County School Board, on Tuesday, March 16 at the Gloucester High School Auditorium, 6680 Short Lane.
- The County’s Budget and Tax Public Hearings, on March 24, also in the GHS Auditorium.
All meetings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Although citizens are invited and encouraged to attend meetings, for those citizens in at risk categories or who may feel uncomfortable attending in person meetings, comments may be submitted through alternate means.

Virginia Governor Visits Bethel Elementary School
On Monday, March 8, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and Virginia Secretary of Education Atif Qarni came to Gloucester County Virginia to visit Bethel Elementary School, and meet with local teachers, staff and leadership.
Governor Northam commended Gloucester County Public Schools Virginia as "a great example of how we can protect our communities with strong health and safety protocols in place."

A Friendly Reminder from the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office
All 2021 Annual Certifications for Tax Relief for the Elderly & Disabled have been mailed out. Existing applicant’s paperwork is due by April 1.
If you no longer meet the requirements for the program such as changes to your income or financial worth or if you no longer live in the home, please contact the Commissioner's office.
New applicant’s paperwork is due by May 1.

Community ArtWalk Event Scheduled for Saturday
A Community ArtWalk Event is being held this Saturday, March 13 at Ware Episcopal Church, Gloucester. This free community event is a collaboration between the church hosting the event and the Gloucester County Public Schools Elementary School Art Teachers providing the artwork on display from their GCPS students!
There will be an outdoor art exhibit, family photo opportunities, planting in the Ware Gardens, Archery lessons with the Scouts, a Nature Walk/Scavenger Hunt and more!

Local Litter Picker Uppers Needed for Great American Cleanup, March 26-27
The folks at askHRgreen.org and Keep Virginia Beautiful have teamed up to clean up Hampton Roads. Plan now to join volunteers from across the region for this year’s Great American Cleanup, March 26-27. Instead of gathering in large groups for organized community cleanups, residents will focus on cleaning up their own communities and local outdoor spaces in smaller numbers.
