What can you do with a plot of land that’s empty and full of weeds? Plant a garden and start composting with your neighbors!

St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Gridley, with the help of generous grants from the Episcopal Foundation of Northern California and California Alliance for Community Composting, has transformed the lot next door to the church at 450 Jackson St. into a garden and composting center for the community: a place to grow food or learn how to garden, a drop-off site for compostable kitchen scraps, and a peaceful outdoor space for people to enjoy.

Do you want to enrich your preaching by including laity in collaborative exegesis and supportive sermon feedback?

If so, then consider trying Sermon Roundtable, a new program developed by the Episcopal Preaching Foundation.

“The Sermon Roundtable is an excellent opportunity for lay formation and for supporting preachers in their call the share the Good News… but in our experience, it is more than that.” said Bishop Megan Traquair. “It is becoming an incubator for lay leaders, who are strengthened and encouraged by the deep connections they are forming in their faith and to each other.”

This 12-week program is now available at no charge to you or your parishioners, thanks to a grant from the Compelling Preaching Initiative of the Lilly Endowment.

Missioner for Disaster Resilience

Community Recovery After Disaster

When we think of disaster response and recovery, we often think of volunteers in protective clothing helping to clean up or move debris. Maybe we think of a chaplain supporting somebody in distress. Perhaps we consider an emergency kitchen feeding a line of survivors. But did you know that the work continues after these events stop?

The people of the Diocese of Northern California have dedicated themselves to the long-term recovery of our communities. Following on the lessons learned from the Camp Fire of 2018, local congregations have become involved in the ongoing financial and material support of their communities, with the backing of the Bishop and Episcopal Relief & Development.

Is your congregation part of your community’s recovery?

  • All Saints’, Redding – undeclared disasters in Shasta and Trinity Counties
  • Faith, Cameron Park – Caldor Fire
  • Holy Trinity, Nevada City – winter storm recovery (2023 & 2024)
  • St. Barnabas, Mt. Shasta – McKinney and Mill Fire
  • St. John’s, Chico – Bear and Camp Fire

With the assistance of the Mission for Disaster Resilience, your congregation can also become a partner to your community, providing long-term relief to your neighbors and following the rule of Christ to love your neighbors.
