This Weekly Update by the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program links to an upcoming workshop at ROE 26 on Professional Boundaries, provides a final chance to register for the Site Safety Security Assessment class, and promotes the upcoming Advanced Digital Threat Assessment®, Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™, Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations, Campus Threat Assessment and Management, and Effective Communication Principles classes.

ROE 26 to Host Professional Boundaries Workshop
April 4th

Regional Offices of Education 26 & 33 will be hosting a Professional Boundaries workshop on April 4th at ROE 26 in Macomb. This workshop "explores the value of boundaries and offers guidance for developing, promoting, and supporting healthy boundaries in work roles and settings."

Training Objectives:
- Communicate to staff what constitutes healthy and unhealthy relationships and how to set boundaries with students/clients in a positive learning environment.
- Develop an understanding of how professional boundaries are the legal, ethical, and organizational frameworks that protect clients and employees from physical and emotional harm and help support a safe working environment.
- Demonstrate how good boundaries offer structure and limits while offering certain freedoms and encouragement.
- Guide educators to know that effective boundaries can help them avoid the frustrations of a more coercive, win-lose approach.

Site Safety Security Assessment Training March 22nd in Gurnee

This is the last chance to register for the Site Safety Security Assessment class on March 22, 2024, in Gurnee, IL. The training provides awareness resources and preparedness training to enhance organizational capacity to conduct multidisciplinary site assessments. The process of conducting a school site safety security assessment creates opportunities to reduce or eliminate potential hazards and develop recommendations for improvement.

Upcoming Session of Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® on April 3rd via Zoom

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program, in partnership with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce an upcoming session of Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® on April 3rd being held via Zoom.

Building upon the Digital Threat Assessment® class by Safer Schools Together, Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® advances participants' understanding of finding and curating relevant digital information consistent with real-life digital threat assessment data gathering scenarios. Significant engagement and hands-on practice will take place as participants are assembled into investigative teams and given a true-to-life mock scenario.

Upcoming Session of Campus Threat Assessment and Management April 3-4th in Rock Island

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce the class Campus Threat Assessment and Management will be held April 3-4, 2024, in Rock Island, IL. This two-day workshop for institutions of higher education featuring Gene Deisinger, Ph.D will help participants to better understand the dynamics of targeted violence and to develop and enhance strategies for early identification, assessment, and intervention with concerning situations.

Upcoming Session of Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations April 8-9th in Peoria

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations class will be held April 8-9, 2024, in Peoria, IL. Class objectives include:

• Why it is important NOT to disregard information given to LEO or school officials.
• What the term "Leakage" means and how we can interpret the information.
• Learn free and open source online investigative tools into social networks and App generated phone numbers.
• Learn to identify and collect cyber evidence to identify suspects.
• Learn the three-step process in investigating internet crimes.
• Learn the importance of Preservation, Exigent Circumstances, and Search Warrants.
• Learn how to obtain IP's, screen names, screen captures, and email headers.
• State laws: Terrorist Threat, Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat, Swatting, and Causing a Catastrophe.
• Suspect search warrant, arrest, interrogation, and mental health evaluation.
• Examine a successful cyber-crime case study investigation from start to finish.

Effective Communication Principles Before, During, and After Critical Incidents in Fairview Heights on April 25th

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the Effective Communication Principles Before, During, and After Critical Incidents class on April 25th in Fairview Heights, IL.

This training provides attendees comprehensive education on the subject of communications. Throughout the training, attendees will learn about the importance of building relationships with the media and the community through routine communications. The training will also provide guidance on how to prepare for a crisis communications event and what to do should that day happen. Finally, instruction will wrap up with discussion on how to effectively communicate after a critical incident.

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program, in partnership with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce an upcoming session of Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™ on April 29th being held in Maywood, IL.

BDTA™ integrates Safer Schools Together’s Digital Threat Assessment® training and best practice from the National Threat Assessment Center’s Behavioral Threat Assessment model. BDTA™ includes a 3-step response plan developed to help S/TA teams ensure all worrisome, concerning, and threat-related behaviors are proactively responded to, reducing the potential of violence within your community. The training will examine techniques for identifying and assessing individuals who engage in behaviors consistent with a threat and provide S/TA teams with the tools to ensure a thorough data collection process. Additionally, the training will provide an overview of the assessment process, including best practices for interviewing and progress monitoring. Participants will obtain the tools vital for proactively and effectively identifying, assessing, and responding to worrisome and/or threat-related behavior through a BDTA™ management lens.
