Saint Patrick's Day Safety

As Spring approaches and we watch for renewed signs of life in our lawns and deciduous trees, another green event comes around annually, St. Patrick's Day. With shamrocks, parades, Irish soda bread, and corned beef and cabbage, there is no denying the merriment of the holiday.
However, many also imbibe various amounts of alcohol and some, unfortunately, choose to drive afterwards. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), "In 2017 alone, 59 people (37% of all crash fatalities) were killed in drunk-driving crashes over the St. Patrick's Day holiday period," and "Between midnight and 5:59 a.m. March 18, 2017, three-fourths (75%) of crash fatalities involved a drunk driver."
Help promote safety this St. Patrick's Day by encouraging the students on your campus to designate a sober driver. The NHTSA has a variety of marketing tools, including the gif and statistics above, to use in an effort to curb drunk driving. For more St. Patrick's Day resources from the NHTSA, click here.
