What's New: President Sara's Message, Home & Garden Show Sign Up, Ukrainian refugees Assistance

What's Happening this week: Program: Chico Project S.A.V.E.
Message from President Sara Beacham
Greetings!

This past week seemed to be a carryover from last week’s theme of flexibility. We have faced many challenges and more continue to pop up daily. Personally, I have traveled to two family funerals in the span of a week, dealt with school setbacks, and am trying to deal with recent health issues. In the meantime, we learned of our additional volunteer opportunity at the Home & Garden Show on April 2 and 3. The same weekend of the Home & Garden Show, some of us will be traveling to Reno to the Sierra Nevada Region Conference. And, on the heels of both of those events, the President’s Project – Advocate for Great – and the 1-day Dream It, Be It conference is the following weekend, April 8 and 9.

Planning for both the President’s Project and Dream It, Be It continue to chunk forward. We still have details to take care of, like catering for both events and swag bags. If you or your business have something you would like to donate to either event’s swag bag, contact me directly. If you want more information on helping out with either event, volunteer sign-ups are out; or you can contact me to get more information. Promotional efforts for both events are in full swing, and both have a cap of 50 participants. Check out www.tinyurl.com/advocate4great and www.tinyurl.com/DreamItBeIt2022 to learn more.

We will continue to pass the bucket for Ukraine at this week’s lunch meeting. Last week, we collected $550 at lunch and another $75 at the SUDS/GTKU on Friday evening. Babette Maiss at SI Bidwell Rancho has connected us with her friendship link in Germany to send the Ukraine funds to for fastest distribution to refugees. Thank you, SI Chico, for helping our sisters across the world.

This week we hear from Janice Walker, the Director of Chico Project S.A.V.E. Chico Project S.A.V.E. distributes recycled medical and dental equipment and supplies to hospitals and dental clinics to those in need around the world. I look forward to hearing about their organization and their efforts locally and worldwide.

See you Wednesday,

President Sara
Janice Walker, Director of Chico Project S.A.V.E. Janice is married to Dr. David Walker, is a mother of two, a grandmother of five, and now a great-grandmother! She and her husband work almost every day receiving and distributing to the needs of others here locally as well as preparing shipments to needy nations.

This all-volunteer non-profit organization collects and recycles medical and dental equipment and supplies which are donated to people in our community as well as to people all over the world.
Spring Home & Garden Show

Per our contract agreement with Andrew Coolidge it is that time of year to volunteer at the Spring Home & Garden Show at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds April 2nd & April 3rd.

We will be working the entrance booths at the Event (staffed from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on both Saturday and Sunday with four club representatives per shift, plus two club representatives taking tickets). SI Chico members will wear Soroptimist logoed shirts or aprons.

SI Chico will have a Soroptimist welcome booth with two club representatives working the booth during the show for both days. SI Chico will set up and decorate the booth on Saturday morning prior to the opening of the show. SI Chico members working the last shift will tear down the booth at the end of the show. Governor Sarah's Message

Hello,

We are going to celebrate being together like never before. Everything I want to say, is in the Call to Conference, no need to repeat myself. The links to the Agenda and the Call to the 6th Board Meeting of the Biennium as well as to register for conference, are below.

Call to Conference, April 1 – 3, 2022, IN PERSON at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada, click here. Registration is open, click here. Click here to make your room reservation.

Call to the 6th Board Meeting of the 2020-2022 Biennium, click here. Tentative Agenda for the 6th Board Meeting of the 2020-2022 Biennium, click here.

I have to say it has been very trying for me, I had mapped out a virtual conference because our state reverted back to wearing mask, then I was going back and forth, but now I am happy that I decided to go with an in-person event, especially since both the State of Nevada and the State of California have released the indoor mask wearing mandate. I want everyone to be comfortable, so do what is best for you. I look forward to mingling in person with all of you.

Best,

Governor Sarah

Wednesday Door Greeters Needed
The SI Objectives Committee are looking for greeters for our Wednesday lunches. All we need is 20 minutes of your time and a smile to greet our members and guests as they walk through the door.

WE NEED YOU!
March Fur Baby and Member of the Month - Riley & Amy Griffin

Meet Riley, an 8-month-old pup that belongs to new member Amy Griffin and her husband Michael.   Amy didn’t want a dog but finally said yes to this adorable labradoodle after much convincing from her family.  She has since fallen in love.
Amy teaches at Chico State and loves skiing, mountain biking and scuba diving.   Her and her husband recently became empty nesters.  They have two wonderful daughters Kallie and Aisling in their 20s that live in Reno.
Dress a Girl .....…. We plan to get together at Cathy’s Sew&Vac as soon as it’s safe (those nights are so fun & productive!), but with the recent wave of Covid in Butte County, we feel it would be safer to start by individually making some dresses at home.

Let’s get started!
