District Students Perform to Packed House During Honor Concerts

Musicians, Vocalists Shine At Annual Event

Students perform with guest conductor Brendan McBrien.

With each performing to a packed house, Capistrano Unified School District instrumental and vocal students shared their musicianship at three 2013 Honor Concerts held on Saturday at Crossline Church in Laguna Hills.  Honor group students were selected to participate in the Orchestra, Band, or Choral honor ensembles through a nomination or audition process.  Their talents were well-showcased during the performances.  As each concert progressed, families and friends were able to see the development of skills and musicality, starting first with performances by elementary level students, moving to beautifully played pieces by middle school students, and culminating with performances from the high school ensembles that would rival those found at most universities.  Each concert had its most memorable moments, including the premiere of an original composition written by guest conductor Brendan McBrien, entitled "South County Sketches," which was showcased at the band and orchestra honor concerts.  A masterful finale of "Do You Hear the People Sing" from Les Misrables brought the house to its feet at the close of the Choral concert.
