"Restoration" March 21 Online Worship

Lent Worship Series - February 21-March 28

Throughout our Lenten series called “Broken Vessels,” we’re going to come back to the imagery of beach glass. Beach glass begins as something whole, and somewhere on its journey it is broken and discarded.

The healing that needs to take place is greater than any one person. Creation itself is groaning, and God's Spirit gives us the power and ability to respond.

Easter Lilies for Altar

Easter lilies will be placed on the altar as a backdrop for our online worship on Easter Sunday, April 4. You can dedicate a plant in memory of or in honor of a loved one. Cost is $20 each. Do you love podcasts? Do you like sharing what you love about podcasts with friends? Let’s form a podcast discussion group! Think book club, but for podcasts. We can share our favorite podcasts or listen to specific podcasts and discuss, or both. Someone pretending to be Pastor Aaron is emailing people in the church community with a message with the subject line: PEACE!! Don't respond to the email. It's a phishing scam. It's been reported to Google, since the scammer's using Gmail. Contact Heather is you have questions.

AIDS Walk Kansas City

Please join the Board of Outreach in participating in AIDS WALK Kansas City virtually on Saturday, April 24. AIDS WALK Kansas City raises money to provide shelter, medical care and emergency services for more than 5,700 men, woman and children in Kansas City suffering from HIV/AIDS. AHH (Artists Helping the Homeless) also receives funds from the walk to provide HIV testing for their members.

Go to aidswalkkansascity.org and select Colonial UCC team when joining the walk or choosing to donate to a team member. The distance you walk is up to you. Grab a friend to join you!

Ramadan Break Fast Dinner

You are invited to join friends from the Dialogue Institute of Kansas City for a Ramadan break fast dinner on April 27. We will meet virtually at 7:30 p.m. in the comfort of our living rooms to hear more about the month of Ramadan and the fasting custom. You will then visit with a Muslim family somewhere in the world to share the meal that each of you have prepared. RSVP to [email protected] or [email protected]

Urgent Help with Meals Needed

Our friends living at Safehome need some help with meals this month. If you are able to make a casserole that can be simply reheated, please bring it by Colonial Church (7039 Mission Road, 66208) between 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Call ahead (913-362-7735) to let us know what time you're stopping by. Last week we gave 10 casseroles. This is a great way to be a blessing! Keep up the good work. Veggie casseroles are appreciated as well as traditional casseroles.

Candidates for Colonial Council Needed

The Colonial Church Council is looking for a few good people to fill upcoming vacancies, beginning in June. Finding a new Board of Property Management chair is critical to allow for time to overlap with current chair Jim Cook. The chair works with Heather in the office and custodian Edson and they take care of all the routine building needs. Another position is that of Assistant Moderator. That position simply serves on the council and Administrative Board, and works with Bill Sanderson to learn the ropes of being Moderator. When Bill steps away in June 2022, the assistant becomes the new moderator. Other positions may open but these are the most pressing. Please consider serving the church in one of these capacities if you are approached by a Council member. Please email Bill Sanderson ([email protected]) if you have questions or comments.

One Great Hour of Sharing 2021 Special Offering

The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare structural inequities that contribute to increased poverty and injustice. On full display is the plight of the working poor who have lost jobs, are on the brink of homelessness, and are waiting for hours in long lines at food pantries. VANish the Void Supplies

Pre-pandemic, Colonial helped Kar Woo and Artists Helping the Homeless by providing and serving a meal in Mill Creek Park once a month for homeless people. We hope to resume that outreach eventually. In the meantime, the Colonial Board of Outreach is providing funds for non-perishable food items for Woo to hand out when he is out in the Be the Change van helping disadvantaged and homeless people in Kansas City. You can give to that effort here by selecting AHH from the dropdown menu.

Colonial Women Rummage Fundraiser

Because of concerns about COVID-19, Colonial Women is hosting a rummage collection rather than the usual sale. The goal is to raise $1,000, which means about 5,000 pounds of items! Savers will pay us by the pound for quality items. To reach that requires 250 13-gallon white trash bags of soft goods and 200 boxes of hard goods. We are also collecting boxes of books for a book sale. So far we have collected 165 bags of soft goods, 48 boxes of hard goods and 25 boxes of books. Let Marylee Battaglia know how many bags or boxes you have collected so we can see progress toward the goal.
