MOBILITY MONDAY

In recognition of Women's History Month, it is a privilege to highlight the remarkable contributions of the extraordinary women who are integral to the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). Their dedication and expertise have been pivotal in shaping transportation initiatives that significantly enhance the quality of life across Broward County and the broader South Florida region. At the Broward MPO, we proudly recognize our team of 19 dedicated female team members. Our agency’s leadership is bolstered by 14 dynamic female board members. These women form a vital part of both our day-to-day operations and our strategic decision-making process. They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and perspective to the table, which is indispensable in advocating for innovative, equitable, and sustainable transportation solutions that meet the evolving needs of our communities. Our female team members are truly the backbone of our organization, working tirelessly behind the scenes to plan, develop, and implement transportation projects that address current challenges and anticipate future demands. Their meticulous efforts ensure that our region remains accessible, connected, and vibrant. Together, these amazing women contribute significantly to our mission of enhancing mobility and economic growth in South Florida. Their passion, resilience, and leadership not only advance our transportation agenda but also inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in transportation and public service. Thank you for all that you do!

Follow These Tips to Stay Safe

on the Road This Spring Break

As Spring Break approaches and Florida’s beautiful beaches and tourist destinations become hotspots for thousands of tourists, it's critical to prioritize safety on the road. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles emphasizes the dangers of impaired driving, which can lead to severe legal and monetary consequences. The agency advocates for enjoying Spring Break responsibly by planning ahead. If you intend to consume alcohol, designate a sober driver, or utilize shared transportation services, which are far more economical and safer compared to facing a DUI arrest. Additionally, the legal drinking age in Florida is 21, and violations of this law, including possession of alcohol by anyone under 21 or selling alcohol to minors, can result in second-degree misdemeanor charges, resulting in hefty court fees and fines. Florida law also prohibits the possession of open containers of alcoholic beverages in vehicles, whether moving or stationary. Compliance with these regulations ensures everyone’s safety and allows for an enjoyable Spring Break experience.

Recently, a delegation from the Broward MPO had the privilege of attending AMPO’s Technical and Policy Committee meeting held in Washington D.C. This significant gathering, which spanned two days in the capital, involved intensive strategic sessions, engaging discussions with staff from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), and in-depth analysis of emerging trends in planning.
