When Cheryl Fracassi M’17 heard her name announced as Kent County Teacher of the Year, the moment felt almost unreal. 

“It was surreal,” she said. “I am very proud of the work I do, but it is for such a specific population of students that it often gets overlooked. To have that work recognized and awarded on a larger stage was very humbling.” 

NDMU celebrated the achievements of Black students and campus organizations, honoring their leadership, impact, and well-deserved awards 🏆

Two School of Nursing faculty members at Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) have received the 2026 Dr. Peg E. Daw Nurse Faculty Annual Recognition Awards (NFAR) from the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), recognizing their outstanding contributions to nursing education. 

Dr. Bernice Horton-Gee and Jeanie Anastasi are among a select group of nursing faculty statewide to receive the distinction through Maryland’s Nurse Support Program II, an initiative designed to strengthen nursing education and expand the state’s nursing workforce.

Insight Into Academia magazine named Notre Dame of Maryland University as a recipient of the 2026 Civic Engagement and Community Service Award, honoring institutions for innovative service and leadership in community involvement.



The honor highlights NDMU’s Freshman Class Academic Fair Program, a service-learning initiative led by the Office of Community Engagement that connects first year students with Baltimore City middle schoolers through interactive, student led workshops.
