Dear St. Rita School Parents and Guardians,
We are pleased to announce that our middle school history teacher, Mrs. Leni Grossomanides, has been selected as one of ten educators to receive the 2024-2025 Light of Christ Recognition Award, which honors outstanding performance among educators in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Hartford. Leni is being honored as an educator who serves as a role model for her students, a witness to Jesus, a dedicated educator, and a responsible citizen whose life is guided by Catholic principles. She, along with the other recipients, will receive their awards at the Catholic School Educators’ Faith Formation Day on April 1 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Congratulations, Mrs. G!
Please note that March 27 is a full day of school and March 28 is an early dismissal day. Tuesday, April 1 is a day off so the teacher’s can attend the Catholic School Educators’ Faith Formation Day at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Fr. Anthony Federico will be the keynote speaker and Archbishop Coyne will celebrate Mass. A number of our St. Rita teachers will be recognized for years of service in Catholic education and the Christ the Light Award honorees will be recognized at that time. Enjoy the day with your child/ren.
The St. Rita School community will be joining together with the St. Paul VI faith formation community in sponsoring a joint family Mass, Easter Egg hunt, and fellowship (coffee and) on Sunday, April 6. All events will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Mass begins at 11:00 A.M. followed by the Easter Egg hunt and some fellowship with our school and parish families. If you plan to attend, we kindly ask that you donate a bag of pre-wrapped Easter treats for each child attending. Also, if you have any plastic fill-able Easter eggs that you would like to donate, please do so.
Our Pastor, Fr. Tiano, is cordially inviting our school parents to have dinner with Archbishop Coyne. The dinner and talk by Archbishop Coyne on ”Lenten Hope” is scheduled for Thursday, April 1,0 beginning at 6:30 P.M. The free dinner and talk will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Hall. This is an opportunity for our school parents to take some time in their very hectic schedules for some spiritual renewal and community building while hearing from our spiritual leader, Archbishop Coyne. Please sign up by March 31 via the QR code or by calling the St. Paul VI Parish office at 203-248-0141.
Thank you so much for your continued generosity with our Lenten project. To date we have raised $2581.79 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Our mascots, Baldy and Ricky, have been traveling to various classrooms getting to know all our students. Please encourage your child to sacrifice something meaningful to them (ice cream treat at DQ, buying a snack at lunch, morning DD treat, etc.) and donate the money to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Your support of this very special charity is greatly appreciated.
Our JV Boys will be playing in the New England CYO Basketball tournament the weekend of March 28-30. Their first game is Saturday, March 29 at 10:15 at Portland Middle School in Portland, CT. The cost is $5.00 per spectator with children under 5 years old are free.
St. Rita Summer Camp has exciting new programs for the upcoming summer such as coding, cheer, and drama, as well as some returning favorites - sports and under the sea - for your summer enjoyment. The camp is open to incoming kindergarteners through incoming 5th graders. Registration and payment will be on-line through FACTS and will begin in April. Please see the attached flyer for additional information and costs.
Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Happy Spring! Have a great week.
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
