St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita Parents,

Thank you all so much for all your help making our on-line auction a success. Whether you donated an item or placed bids on the lovely items which were part of the auction, your generosity is appreciated. Thank you so much to the HSA board for all their hard work in coordinating this event. You may pick-up and pay for your auction items tomorrow. Please refer to the email sent to you by the HSA for specific information and times.

Plans are underway for a summer camp program, as well as an academic summer program. The fun-filled summer camp will run for six weeks beginning the week of June 21 and will be a half-day camp program from 8:00 - 12:30. The academic program (for students entering grades 1 - 8) will run for 4 weeks during the month of July for 2 hours a day, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 - 10:00. With both programs you may choose as many sessions as you would like. We are still working out the details of both programs and hope to get the registration materials out to you within the next few weeks.

Congratulations to the members of our second grade class who made their First Reconciliation last Friday. As was mentioned, the date for First Communion is Saturday, May 8, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Rita Church. Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions with seating capacity within the church, there will be a limited number of attendees at this event. The event will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in-person. Each First Communicant will be allowed to have up to 7 guests who will sit in his/her designated family pew. Thank you for your understanding and assistance in keeping everyone safe and healthy.

Our second trimester is coming to a close next week. Conferences are currently being scheduled for Friday, March 12, from 1:00-3:30. These conferences are optional. Should you feel a conference is needed, please schedule one with your child’s teacher. Report cards will be sent home with your child on Tuesday, March 16. Should your tuition account be seriously delinquent and you have not contacted the business office to make the necessary payment arrangements, your child’s report card will be withheld.

Currently our Lenten service project has raised $1,207.93. Our three stuffed lamb mascots - Faith, Hope and Love - are spending time this week visiting with the students in Mrs. Gertz’s, Mrs. McKeon’s and Ms. Salsbury’s rooms, as those classes contributed monies everyday last week. Each week the mascots will travel to different rooms as a symbol of our Lenten project to feed the hungry. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this very worthwhile project.

Since last Tuesday we have had three new cases of COVID-19 in our school community. Three students tested positive. Those students were last in school on Thursday or Friday of last week. Consequently, we have two classrooms out on quarantine. The families in those classes have been notified of the quarantine. Contact tracing is being conducted according to CDC guidelines.

Finally, during this season of Lent, let us follow the advice of Pope Francis regarding fasting -- “Fast from hurting words and say kind words, fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude, fast from worries and trust God”. Thank you for entrusting your child to our care. Have a marvelous week.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
Xavier High School

On May 1 at 9 am, Xavier will offer the opportunity for 7th graders to take the PreHSPT. This test is similar to the test that students take as part of their application to Xavier. By taking the test, students will gain a familiarity with the format, timing, and question types. A detailed score report will be mailed after the test administration to help students understand their areas of strength and weakness. Students who score in the 90th percentile or higher will earn a $500 scholarship for their freshman year at Xavier. It will be conducted online so students will just need access to a computer with a camera to take it. The testing fee is $10 and registration for it can be done online. Contact Nicholas Grasso, Director of Admissions, nmgrasso@xavierhighschool.org with any questions.
Also, on March 15 at 7 pm, Xavier will offer an information session over Zoom. Registration can be completed online. We look forward to talking about the transformative education Xavier provides in our all-boys, Catholic, Xaverian school. Xavier has a ton to offer each student including AP and UCONN Early College Experience Courses, a myriad of clubs and activities, sports at the freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity level, leadership development, mentoring, and of course a rigorous academic program that prepares students to excel in college and beyond. Xavier graduates are men of character and distinction. We hope you’ll start the process of learning how Xavier can be a great place for your son to grow and develop. Register for the upcoming information session.

Update to Covid Quarantine guidelines.

These are the guidelines we are now following as part of the CDC’s newest guidelines when it comes to Covid 19.

If an individual does not have Covid-19 symptoms but had close contact to someone diagnosed with Covid-19:
Remain home in self-quarantine for the recommended 10 days from last exposure to the person diagnosed with Covid-19. If symptoms occur, contact your health care provider.

If you test positive:
Remain home until 10 day’s have passed since date of positive Covid-19 test or if you have symptoms, 10 days since symptoms began.
There was an addendum that had to do with testing on day 5 of an exposure and exiting quarantine after 7 days but our school district is NOT implementing that at this time.

Just a reminder of isolation vs Quarantine

Isolation = When you are experiencing symptoms or have a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19

Quarantine = when you have been exposed but you are not experiencing symptoms
Thank you to everyone for keeping your children home when they are not feeling well and keeping us informed of any illnesses. With your cooperation we will continue to keep our school community safe.

Just a few reminders:

- If your child is home sick for more then 24 hours we will need a doctors note in order for them to return to school.

- This year with COVID-19 continuing to be active the State Department of Public Health is encouraging everyone to receive an Influenza Vaccination by the end of October. The vaccinations are now readily available. Once your child receives the vaccine, please send proof into school for the nurse to document.

- If your child is home sick and the doctor recommends a COVID test please do not get a rapid test. We will only be accepting the PCR test in order to return to school.

- many of us suffer from seasonal allergies and may experience symptoms similar to COVID-19.

Symptoms more common of seasonal allergies and not COVID-19 are itchy or watery eyes and sneezing.

Symptoms more common if COVID-19 are fever and chills, muscle and body aches, new loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting and Diarrhea.

If you obtain positive results after school hours, please email Mrs. Tiezzi (ptiezzi.stritaschool@gmail.com) and the nurse (lpalma.stritaschool@gmail.com)

When in doubt call your pediatrician.
