Spring is almost here! Many good things to look forward to as we move into the warmer months. We had excellent representation at the Capital Conference in DC with our Legislative Co-Chair Brandon Darin and our HUPAC Chair Jay Schripsema. Be sure to read their articles for all the latest. Mark your calendars for March 24th for a Member Happy Hour get together at Minervas and April 15th for a General Membership meeting at the Elks Lodge.  Kudos to our Programs Chair  Raquel Paulus for setting these up.


Our Association Year which runs July 1st through June 30th is winding down fast. Our nominations committee will soon be accepting nominees for the various Officer and Director positions within our Association. Please consider serving and a big thank you to those currently donating their time and resources to the Association.

How Health Reform Affects Medicare

1. Preventive Care:
Now offered at no additional cost. Wellness exams every year without having to pay anything at the time of your visit.

2. Screenings: Mammograms are considered screening for breast cancer. A colonoscopy checks for colon cancer. Other screenings check for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

3. Counseling for 'smokers'

4. Prescriptions: Reduced copays in the donut hole 45% copay for brand-name drugs in the donut hole (donut hole is begins when drug cost hits $2960).

Legislative Co-Chair, Brandon Darin of Grotenhuis and HUPAC Chair, Jay Schripsema attended on behalf of the Northern Michigan Association of Health Underwriters (NMAHU). The three day conference, that spanned the later part of February, had well over eight hundred agent and brokers in attendance; hailing from every corner of the United States to engage with the various speakers and to lobby our nation's leaders to enact legislation that is beneficial to you, the agent.
