Coming to an Elementary School Near You
Healthy Waltham is excited about our new partnership with the Waltham Public Schools: Fresh! Chef-to-School Visits. Our Chef Reva will visit all Waltham elementary schools this year to work with cafeteria staff on new and creative ways to serve healthy foods. Students get to try a sample or two at lunchtime and learn about the importance of a healthy diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables. Check out our recent Waltham News Tribune article about this program and our photo gallery here.

I look forward to meeting many of you at upcoming programs!"

Volunteers Needed!
Join us at the Fitzgerald Elementary School on Saturday, April 30, to help put in a new school garden! The Fitzgerald School community will be installing a new garden next to the school at 140 Beal Road during the hours of 9AM-5PM. Our Display at the Waltham Public Library
Now through the e nd of March, Healthy Waltham has a display in the case outside the Children's Room at the Waltham Public Library. Fruits,Veggies, Grains, Protein and Dairy--food groups explained for kids through MyPlate, as well as a reminder about  the importance of exercise and setting limits on unhealthy foods. If you are visiting the Children's Room, be sure to check it out. You can find photos here.
Healthy Snacks at Dana Court
Kids are enjoying Healthy Waltham's 6-week Afterschool Healthy Snacks workshop at the Dana Court Learning Center. Chef Reva's class covers the different food groups, how to add more fruits and vegetables to meals, healthy breakfasts, whole grains, and lots of hands-on cooking! Kids enjoy making a variety of healthy snacks such as black bean quesadillas and fresh tomato salsa. Cooking together is one of the best ways we know to encourage kids to try new foods. At a recent class, one girl remarked that she never liked tomatoes before trying them in our salsa!
