The latest news and information from Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Fresno and Madera Counties.

Message from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,
Spring has brought with it some great new things here at CASA. We are excited to launch our new Journey of Hope 6-12 program with our first group of advocates this month. Journey of Hope is a program developed here at CASA of Fresno and Madera that provides age specific advocacy for children and further provides opportunities for healthy and successful futures. Our Journey of Hope 0-5 and Journey of Hope 13-18 programs have shown positive results over the past few years and this month starts the beginning of our 6-12 small group meetings.
Each Journey of Hope program provides benchmarks in focus areas such as Health & Safety, Education, Permanence and Independent Living.  Our 6-12 benchmarks focus on specific topics within these areas like drug and alcohol abuse education, mentor relationships, money management and heritage & cultural connections.
We are excited to complete our Journey of Hope program with the addition of ages 6-12 and look forward to seeing the advanced advocacy our volunteers will provide to foster children here in Fresno and Madera.

Winter 2017 New Advocate Class
CASA Welcomes 27 New Advocates!

On Tuesday, February 7th CASA swore-in 27 new advocates during a ceremony held at Pardini's Catering and Banquets. Our new volunteers heard messages from our Board President, Executive Director, and Dependency Court Judge the Honorable Mary Dolas before taking their Oath of Office and being sworn-in as officer's of the court.
Each new advocate was presented with their first case files during meetings held on Wednesday, February 15th in Fresno and Wednesday, February 22nd in Madera. We look forward to watching the great work these new advocates do for our foster children!

Please join us in welcoming our winter 2017 New Advocate Class!

Foundation funds help us meet the needs of foster children in our community.

Our advocate Jane is appointed to the case of a young man who lives in the Oakhurst area where there is no public transportation. It was brought to our attention that he was walking over an hour, one way, to attend school. Due to the recent rain and flooding in the Oakhurst area this young man was finding it hard to get to school and complete the remaining credits he needed to graduate in June.

Thanks to funding provided by the Dr. Joel and Maria Fort Fund for needs such as this and a partnership with Rubber Soul Bicycles in Fresno, CASA was able to purchase a bicycle for this young man to use in his commute to school.

The Advocate Supervisor stated that the young man "lit up with excitement and relief" when presented with the bike. He is now able to continue pursuing his high school diploma and the bicycle will help him with getting to both school and work.

We are extremely grateful for funding, local business partnerships, and our advocates who help make opportunities such as this a possibility for foster children.

Our Annual Volunteer Recognition event, Voices of Hope, will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd at the Golden Palace Banquet Hall. This event gives us the opportunity to recognize the outstanding work of our advocates and showcase the impact they've had on the lives of foster children. We are privileged to work with such dedicated volunteers and look forward to honoring them during this special event.
