Summer Food Distribution Site Applications Now Open
|
|
DCYF is accepting applications from sites in San Francisco interested in being distribution sites for the Summer Food Program. The program will run for 12 weeks, from May 30th - August 18th.
The Summer Food Program is a federally-funded child nutrition program that provides free lunches and snacks for youth when school is not in session. DCYF is a local sponsor of the program: we provide financial and administrative support to ensure that lunches and snacks are available to all youth under age 18, particularly in high-need neighborhoods in San Francisco.

DCYF Recruiting Summer Food Program Monitors
|
|
More Summer Food Program news: DCYF is hiring Summer Food Program Monitors. Summer Food Program Monitors will be responsible for monitoring 8-10 summer lunch/snack sites to ensure compliance with established USDA and State regulations, and will provide administrative support for the Summer Food Service Program office. Hurry: applications are due by March 29 at 5pm.

DCYF Accepting Submissions from Youth for Nutrition Poster Contest
|
|
Even more Summer Food Program news: DCYF is hosting our first ever Nutrition Poster Contest for youth! Our data shows that the majority of youth who participate in the Summer Food Program are K-5 students, and we want to be sure older youth know about and take part in the program. Youth ages 12-18 are invited to submit posters that promote the meals program and healthy eating to middle and high school youth. Winning designs will be displayed at over 100 locations in San Francisco, and the winners will receive a $tipend! Submissions are due by Friday, April 14.

DCYF Grantees: Register for the DCYF Data Cafe
|
|
The DCYF Data Café will take place on Friday, March 31 from 9:30am to 12pm in The Mint conference room at the DCYF office: 1390 Market, Suite 900. At the Data Cafe DCYF grantees will have the opportunity to enter last-minute data into the CMS, get data questions answered, and troubleshoot Progress Report issues. Wifi, coffee, and pastries will be available.

DCYF to Release Youth Empowerment Fund RFQ
|
|
On March 29 DCYF will release a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify eligible organizations to coordinate fiscal support and program management for Youth Empowerment Fund programs. The RFQ announcement will be posted on the DCYF website and on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. Applications will be due on April 12.

DCYF Grantees: Budget Revisions Due March 31
|
|
Don't forget, grantees: the deadline to submit a fiscal year 2016/17 budget revision request to DCYF is Friday, March 31.

April and May OAC Meetings Rescheduled
The April meeting of the Children & Youth Fund Oversight & Advisory Committee (OAC) has been rescheduled to Monday, April 17, and the May meeting has been rescheduled to Monday, May 15. Both meetings will take place at 5:30pm in the DCYF office, 1390 Market, Suite 900. All meetings of the OAC are open to the public.

Next Service Provider Working Group Meeting: April 3
|
|
The OAC's Service Provider Working Group (SPWG) will meet on Monday, April 3 from 3:30pm to 5pm. The location of the meeting is TBD. Any organization that serves children, youth, and families in San Francisco is welcome to attend. Stay tuned to DCYF's website and social media feeds for an announcement of the location of the meeting.

DCYF and SFUSD Release Results of Student Activities, Programs & Services Survey
|
|
This report summarizes the results of the 2016 Student Activities, Programs & Services Survey, which was administered to middle and high school students in SFUSD to help inform DCYF’s Services Allocation Plan. DCYF collaborated with SFUSD to survey students about their interest in and access to various activities and programs. The report describes the overall results of the survey and includes summary results by respondent grade level, sex, and race/ethnicity.

Applications Open for Seats 8 and 9 on Oversight & Advisory Committee
|
|
The OAC is seeking applications from San Francisco residents to fill Seats 8 and 9 on the Committee. Seat 8 must be held by a parent of a child or children who are enrolled in kindergarten through 8th grade, and Seat 9 must be held by a parent of a child under the age of five years and enrolled in a publicly-subsidized or City-funded program. Final appointment of both seats will be made by the Board of Supervisors.

|

SF Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative Announces Investment Fund and Nonprofit Space Stabilization Program
|
|
The Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative helps San Francisco’s nonprofits secure new, nonprofit-owned space and creates solutions for organizations seeking long-term leases. The initiative includes two new programs — the Nonprofit Space Investment Fund and the Nonprofit Space Stabilization Program. The programs provide technical and financial assistance to support nonprofit sustainability amidst a changing, and volatile, real estate market. Hurry: applications for the Investment Fund and Space Stabilization Program are due on March 28.

List Your Summer Program in the Our Children, Our Families Activity Guide
|
|
The Our Children Our Families Council (OCOF) is inviting San Francisco summer program providers to list their information for free in the OCOF Activity Guide. OCOF will publicize the Activity Guide throughout the City via schools, libraries, summer resource fairs and other channels.

SF Youth Commission to Host Youth Unity Solidarity Rally
|
|
On Monday, April 3 the SF Youth Commission will host a Youth Unity & Solidarity Rally in order to highlight San Francisco’s commitment to standing by Muslim, transgender, and immigrant youth. The rally will take place at 4pm on the Polk Street steps of City Hall. Following the rally the Youth Commission will vote on a resolution in opposition to federal attacks on immigrant, Muslim, and transgender communities. Youth will be able to provide public comment on the resolution in room 416 of City Hall.

DCYF and our City, school district, and nonprofit partners are dedicated to ensuring that youth ages 14-24 in San Francisco have meaningful work experiences in the summer, and many of the organizations that provide these workforce development opportunities are accepting applications now! Visit Us at Park Prescription Day on April 23
|
|
Come to Crissy Field on Sunday, April 23 for Park Prescription Day! There will be fun activities for all ages and abilities, including zumba, tai chi, obstacle courses, yoga, ranger-led walks, face painting, healthcare screenings, and so much more. You can also learn about ways to use public transit to access your local parks, healthy eating, exercise tips, and youth programs in parks. And it's free!

Please check this Planning Update section every month to stay current on DCYF’s planning activities. Over the next several months we will provide updates on the development of the Service Allocation Plan and Request for Proposals.
On March 8 DCYF released the first official draft of our Services Allocation Plan (SAP). The SAP establishes DCYF's strategic funding priorities and proposed funding allocation for services based on needs identified by DCYF's Community Needs Assessment (CNA), which was completed in August 2016.
The final SAP will be used as our guide as we craft our next major Request for Proposals (RFP), which is scheduled for release in July 2017.
DCYF accepted feedback about the SAP via an online feedback form and at our March Oversight & Advisory Committee (OAC) meeting, which took place on Monday, March 13.

DCYF staff are currently crafting responses to the feedback we received, and we will post the our responses on the DCYF website and in the next newsletter. We will also present our responses at the next meeting of the OAC, which will take place on Monday, April 17 at 5:30pm.

Youth Advocacy Day 2017
The 8th Annual Youth Advocacy Day took place on March 16 in Civic Center. Over 150 San Francisco youth met with panels of City officials and discussed issues they care about as young people. Board of Education President Shamann Walton gave a wonderful keynote, and Board of Supervisors President London Breed delivered an inspirational closing address. Want more YAD pics? Citywide Summer Resource Fair
The Citywide Summer Resource Fair took place on March 11. This year the Fair featured 175 exhibitors and drew nearly 3,300 attendees! Still looking for a summer program, camp, or class? Mayor's Youth Jobs+ Resource Fair
The annual Mayor's Youth Jobs+ Resource Fair took place on March 18. Hundreds of youth ages 16-24 worked on their resumes, got job search advice, and learned how to ace job interviews. On top of that, many youth were hired on-the-spot by San Francisco employers! Missed the Resource Fair? Buchanan YMCA Students Celebrate National Nutrition Month
March is National Nutrition Month, and students at Buchanan YMCA's after school program at Gateway Middle School celebrated it the yummiest way possible: by making and sharing healthy snacks!
