March 2017

A New Name for  Lagae Ranch
To more accurately align with the communication efforts of Lennar Homes, information about the Lagae Ranch development on the City's website has been changed to  Castle Pines Valley . The new development, currently under construction, will include 231 single-family homes, 400 multi-family residences, an elementary school, 76 acres of open space, and the previously constructed Elk Ridge Park and American Academy school. Nothing else about the project is new, only how residents will be able to view and reference the project under the new name on the City's website and in future project communications.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Effect Throughout Douglas County
On Tuesday, February 21, Sheriff Tony Spurlock enacted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions throughout Douglas County.  Ordinance No. O-012-004 restricts open fires, open burning and the use of fireworks in the unincorporated areas of Douglas County and Castle Pines.

Violation of these fire restrictions is a Class-2 Petty Offense, punishable by up to a $1000.00 fine and a $10.00 surcharge.

Beekeeping Ordinance Under Consideration
At the March 14, 2017 City Council meeting, Councilmembers will hear a first reading of a proposed beekeeping ordinance. The ordinance would include an amendment to Chapter 7 of the City's Municipal Code and add a new Article, entitled "Beekeeping". The purpose of the ordinance is to allow beekeeping within populated areas of the City while establishing requirements for sound beekeeping practices.

Airspace Improvement Workshops
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will hold 12 public information workshops in April and May 2017 on proposed airspace improvements in the Denver Metro Area.

The improvements are part of the Denver Metroplex project, which proposes to use streamlined satellite navigation to move air traffic more safely and efficiently through the Metro Area. Existing air routes may be modified with new satellite-based routes.

The Denver Metroplex project includes Denver International Airport, Centennial Airport, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, Buckley Air Force Base, Northern Colorado Regional Airport, Front Range Airport and Greeley-Weld County Airport.

FAA representatives will provide information on the project and be available to answer questions. The preliminary route designs will also be presented.
