DPI Health and Wellness:
Open Up and Say AHHHH!

A person's oral health is often over looked, but it is just as important to see a dentist as it is to see you primary care physician (PCP) on a regular basis. The oral health of a person is often related to their over-all physical well-being. Cavities, gingivitis, and other dental concerns have been linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, and blood infections.
Most visits involve the Dentist and Hygienists inspecting the mouth for correct tooth growth and root development along with cleaning the teeth with special toothpaste and then polishing the teeth with fluoride. If cavities are detected treatment can be offered early before complications arise. If cavities are left untreated you are running the risk of a more intrusive procedure such as root canals or extractions.

Seeing the dentist every six months is recommended, however good oral care should be year around. Remember to brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes.
Proper Technique:
  • Gently move the tooth brush back and forth in short strokes
  • Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth
  • Clean between teeth daily with floss
DPI is excited to welcome UMKC Dental Hygienists Students to each of our sites this month to go over proper oral care and to provide helpful hints for overall oral health.

You can also qualify for a FREE cleaning through UMKC.
