March Milestone
Horton Meets the Sea!
Horton, our 5 month old Great Dane puppy, had his first visit to Poipu Beach! Although he is seen happily encountering the ocean and splashing in the water for the first time, social media can be deceiving! Shortly after this video clip was taken, Horton decided that he most definitely did not want to get his paws wet again! He also refused to take another step down the beach and we discovered that he has now also outgrown our ability to pick him up and carry him! We are happy to report, however, that he is slowly getting used to the sand and the waves at Keiki Cove and Baby Beach, the shallow coves where we taught our human kids to swim!
South Side Secrets
Wondering what treasure you'll find nestled between this double rainbow? One of the top five Best of The Best Beaches in Hawaii according to the 2018 HAWAII Magazine Reader's Choice Awards! Poipu Beach is no stranger to accolades and we are proud to have this stretch off the coastline as our backyard.
Whether you are on a honeymoon, happily retired or traveling with the family and all your kids in tow, the South Shore is divine for everyone! There are shallow tide pools for toddlers to paddle around in, lifeguards to watch over you and gentle shallow water to experience snorkeling for the first time. You will be amazed at the array of tropical fish awaiting your discovery! Enter to the right of the island sandbar and stay over the reef for the fishiest encounters. Lucky you if you spot a honu or a humuhumu :) or even a manta ray!
The beach fronting the Sheraton and Kiahuna Plantation Beach is a favorite for sun-seekers and beginner surfers. This sandy stretch wraps around to the south forming a small cove fronting the Koa Kea Hotel where you can access the boardwalk that leads you in front of Koa Kea and Marriot Resorts to Waiohai Beach and Poipu Beach. There are popular surf breaks for more advanced surfers along this section and this walk is a great viewpoint to check out the reef break action. Enjoy delicious beef, shrimp and pineapple skewers and an exotic drink from the Marriot Honu Poolside Bar & Grill along the way!

Float like you mean it
Prefer to simply hang out and chill? There is plenty of room to swim and float around in this crystal clear aqua paradise. Water temperatures are favorable all year long so your vacation planning is ultra simple. It's mainly always sunny on the south side!
Take your cue from the local wildlife
Everyone needs a good battery charging and there is no better way to do it than to spread out flat on your belly (or your back!) in the sand and set about soaking up some rays! Sunshine is good for you! Sunlight trips the release of serotonin and endorphins, hormones associated with  happier mood . Getting sun exposure during the day puts you on track for more effective production of melatonin, the hormone that  helps sleep . Sunshine-saturated days bring on feelings of relaxation, but it turns out that the process is physiological as well as mental. When sunlight touches skin, a compound called nitric oxide is released into the blood vessels, a process that brings  blood pressure levels down —which can lower the risks of  heart attack  and  stroke . It's a great source of Vitamin D and helps to keep your bones stronger. Plus it just feels good, however, sunburn does not!
Be sure to slather on reef-friendly sunscreen after 10-20 minutes of sun exposure and seek shade during the hottest time of day!
