2018 Spring Outing
Registration is now open!
Expand your network within the association community by joining WSAE in Lake Geneva for a perfect mix of education and fun! The 2018 Spring Outing, hosted by Geneva National and The Ridge, will kick off on Monday with educational programming, followed by the Participants & Pairings Party. In addition to the golf tournament held on Tuesday at the Lee Trevino Course, the Outing will offer non-golfers the opportunity to visit sponsors out on the course for games and refreshments and engage in an additional educational session in the afternoon. The Outing will conclude with a reception, offering one last chance to network and celebrate golf award winners.

Industry Partners are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend!

More than just golf!

The WSAE Spring Outing has always been a great event for connecting with association peers, whether on or off the course. This year's program includes more educational opportunities for non-golfers! View the full schedule online .

Ann Barry Hanneman & Geoffrey Trotier, von Briesen & Roper, S.C.

Navigating Workplace Rapids
Greg Hawks, Owner/Instigator, Hawks Agency
Monday, May 22, 1:45 pm - 3:00 pm

Challenging and jolting experiences along with unexpected twists and turns makes navigating work exciting and exhausting. Change and disruption are constant companions on the river, as well as at work, making nimble employees and leaders more vital today than ever. Work is like a whitewater river trip!

Three consistent disrupters create rapids: pressure, obstacles and terrain change. Ironically, obstacles give individuals and organizations advantages. "I love obstacles" will be declared! Obstacles create adventures; obstacles create inspiration; obstacles create distinction. Every leader should consider this approach to guiding teams!

As a Corporate Culture Specialist, Greg brings an expansive leadership portfolio to your service. For two decades he has mentored leaders, developed teams, crafted culture and empowered employees. He is intensely motivated to grow high capacity talent who work, serve and sell with excellence, consistently. Compelled by the belief that individuals who Think, Act, Lead and Create Like An Owner® will be more fulfilled and productive, he originated the Like An Owner® platform. His mission is to challenge and empower leaders, teams and organizations to reach for Greatness. Learn more.

Creating an Event Experience
Megan Denhardt, CAE, President, The Denhardt Group
Tuesday, May 22

No longer can organizations lather, rinse & repeat the same static event year after year. The challenge with the tired status quo is that learners demand more, members expect more and the competition for their time and attention is ever-increasing. Today's attendees want dynamic learning experiences where they can interact with experts and engage with content that sparks their curiosity and satisfies their craving to explore what matters to them most.
It can be a challenge to meet all these new expectations while meeting the old expectation of staging a profitable event. Associations can create meaningful moments and exceptional experiences at their events - turning a first time attendee into a life-long one.

Megan, President of The Denhardt Group, has 13 years of experience in developing and managing face-to-face and online educational programs, conferences and events in all shapes and sizes. Her dedication to creating exceptional and memorable experiences for her clients and their constituents is what sets her apart. Megan has enormous energy and enthusiasm for delivering high-level content in engaging ways that keep participants tuned-in. She coaches organizations on how to create and deliver meaningful educational content, implement unique conferences and events, and design quality programs, that keep attendees engaged and foster relationship building. New Meeting Professionals Solutions Network Spoke

Calling all WSAE meeting professionals - a new spoke is starting within our association community! This exciting new spoke is completely dedicated to discussing aspects of meeting/event planning. For members interested in participating in this spoke, we would like to set a day/time in April for either a breakfast or brown bag lunch to get the ball rolling and discuss next steps. Please know that spokes will not be meeting during the upcoming Spring Outing in May. We will set the location (either Madison, Milwaukee or somewhere in between) and time for the initial meeting based on consensus of the meeting planners interested in joining the spoke. Please contact me at michelle.eggert@conferencedirect.com to indicate your availability and interest. If you're not the person in your association who plans events, please feel free to pass this information along and that person is welcome to attend.

Gain new insights, share knowledge with your peers and increase your involvement in WSAE!

Event Justification Letter Template

Hi All:

In an effort to get more young professionals / future leaders to our events, I'm creating resources YP's can use when submitting requests to attend.

In addition to a list of benefits and event details, I'd like to include a 'justification letter' template for employees to download and tweak as needed to fit their company.

Does anyone have templates similar to this and are willing to share?

Example--
Dear <MANAGER>:
I would like to attend the National Fluid Power Association's upcoming event in <EVENT LOCATION>. By attending this event, I will gain valuable knowledge and skills pertaining to my role at <COMPANY> as an emerging leader in the fluid power sector. This will also give me the opportunity to connect with peers and fluid power leaders throughout the nation on behalf of <COMPANY>.
Benefits of attending include....

PR/Marketing Committees/Plans

We are in the process of engaging members on a new Marketing & Public Relations Committee to help develop and implement strategies for social media/internet, public and media relations, and image/collateral development.  Does anyone else use a similar committee and/or have strategies/plans they'd be willing to share as guides? Making Your Content 'Findable'

When asked about writing for digital platforms, three "Fs" always come to mind: fast, front-loaded and friendly content. "Fast" means making information quick to find and digestible; "front-loaded" refers to revealing up front what the topic is about and why it's valuable to the reader; and "friendly" indicates writing in a conversational tone.

But perhaps most important these days is a fourth "F" - "findable." Content that gets noticed on search engines is successful content. With Google processing 40,000 queries every second, according to Internet Live Stats, you must ensure your content rises to the top of online searches. How can you get your content discovered, and discovered by the right people? By developing a Search Engine Optimization strategy. Read more.
