Message From the Executive Director of SBCCOG

The SBCCOG's South Bay Environmental Services Center is recruiting volunteers. Tomorrow, March 15th will be the Volunteer Training/Recruitment event from 4:30 - 5:45 pm at the South Bay Environmental Services Center, 20285 S. Western Avenue, Suite 100, Torrance, CA 90501.   We hope you will consider sign-ing up and also share this with family, friends and neighbors. Join in the fun, comradery and meaningful work of a South Bay Environmental Services Center Volunteer. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work on current issues which promote energy and water conservation through community events in the South Bay. Working in our office is another way to support our work, by providing administrative support and assisting with special projects. Discovery Cube LA Updates Award-Winning Home Inspector Training Exhibit to Provide Energy Conservation, Affordability and Natural Gas Safety Information
  
Discovery Cube LA announced that with the help of Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) it has enhanced its award-winning "Inspector Training Course" to show the role natural gas plays in keeping home energy affordable and safe. SoCalGas presented Discovery Cube with a $100,000 check, which the organization will use for multiple initiatives to bring STEM education to life for visitors. Over the past 18 years, SoCalGas has donated more than $400,000 to both Discovery Cube campuses in Los Angeles and Orange County.

As the burger and pizza food trend continues strongly, Steve Henderson is about to jump in with his very own gourmet burger sliders restaurant in Carson.
As a new franchise owner for Burgerim, Henderson has signed a lease and is getting ready for a September opening. He's determined to make his new venture a financial success and savings from the use of energy-efficient equipment is part of his business strategy.

Goldsworthy Groundwater Desalter in early February, we would like to share with you the Daily Breeze coverage of the event.  Learn how the WRD and City of Torrance are making a difference in creating locally sourced potable drinking water. Green Line Alert

Bus shuttles replace trains between Hawthorne/Lennox and Redondo Beach until Saturday, April 7th at 3:00 AM due to Crenshaw/LAX Line junction work. Stops that are a ffected include: 
  • Redondo Beach Station 
  • Douglas Station 
  • El Segundo Station 
  • Mariposa Station 
  • Aviation / LAX Station 
  • Hawthorne / Lennox Station 
Free Green Line bus shuttles serve all closed stations every 6 minutes during peak hours and 15 to 20 minutes during non-peak hours.

Also, learn about other Metro programs such as Vanpool and ExpressLanes.

In the South Bay Retail World, Only One Question Really Matters: "Is It Millennial Ready?"
 
A major planned overhaul of the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach - aimed directly at millennials - is exactly the sort of retail project South Bay cities and developers should emulate, experts told a regional planning group Friday.
The focus of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments 19th annual General Assembly - "The Evolution of Retail & Its Challenges for Cities" - was one weighing heavily on the minds of officials from cash-conscious South Bay communities that are seeing a steady decline in sales tax revenues.
