Legislative Update
PCC and partners testified for both the Distracted Driving bill (H. 4480) and our Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety bill (H. 3615).

H.3615 hit a major skid, given unwillingness of the House Judiciary committee on Special Laws to agree it as a priority.  While the House Education & Public Works committee passed this bill, it is in dangerous limbo without passage by the Judiciary committee.

Good news is H.4480 is on its way to the full House for vote, and next step is the Senate.  This bill will benefit all road users!
SC Livable Communities Alliance
PCC facilitates the SC Livable Communities Alliance (SCLCA) in engaging SCDOT on a state campaign for more livable streets.  The result of these strong partnerships and advocacy is SCDOT's agreement to allocate 10% of their federal allotment of safety money to a new Vulnerable Road User program, totaling $5 Million annually.  This new program will target improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists at notoriously unsafe segments of state owned streets and roads for improvements using proven federal countermeasures and crash data.  In addition, the SCLCA continues to engage SCDOT in a Multimodal Advisory Committee.  Stay tuned!
