Cheshire AV-ator
We are very proud to announce that 2019 marks Cheshire Audio Visual's 25th Anniversary! As a second-generation, family-owned and operated business, we take great pride in sharing the news of this landmark anniversary.

We couldn't have done it without YOU! So let us kick off this year by thanking you for your support, your patronage, and your friendship.

As we go through the year, we'll be taking a look back, starting with Steve Cheshire's launch of our company in 1994. Below he talks about how and why he started the
company. We think you might get a kick out of the photos
we found from over the years,  including the very first Cheshire logo.

If we can assist with  an upcoming event, please contact Justin at (585) 325-4250, ext. 102, or email me at  [email protected]. We dare you to challenge our creativity!
Steve Cheshire Reflects on Cheshire's 25th Anniversary

Steve Cheshire is proud to have founded Cheshire Audio Visual 25 years ago.

He first got interested in the Audiovisual field while attending Edison Tech, where he studied lithography and photography. After serving in the armed forces, Steve returned home to Rochester and secured a degree from MCC in order to become part of an elite group of four guys who composed Kodak's audiovisual team, serving 18 different business units at Kodak.

When asked about the changes he's seen in the past 25 years, Steve shared, "In the early days at Kodak, whatever equipment I wanted, I could get. We started out with slides, then began mixing slides and video. I got in touch with SONY, and we bought six of the first SONY video projectors ever made."

When asked what aspect of the industry he liked best, there was no hesitation....

CHESHIRE ON THE ROAD

CCF Gala - In December, we kicked off the holidays by partnering with VRS Meetings & Events at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC on the Children's Charity Foundation's black tie Gala. This gala raises funds to support  disadvantaged and at-risk children and youth in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

In the photos at right, you'll see  our Absen 3.9 A3 Pro LED Tiles in the center of the stage, and our CHAMELEON Star Drape Panels highlighting the performers.

Volpara Solutions at  RSNA - At the RSNA Conference  at  McCormick Place ,   over 50,000 radiology professionals were in attendance. For this exhibit,  we were pleased to partner with  In Tradeshows & Events , providing audiovisual support as well as Samsung LCD/LED monitors for Volpara Solutions' booth and presentation areas, a Roland 4 Channel HDMI Video Switcher, and high-end audio equipment designed to ensure the ultimate delivery of sound to overcome the noise in the exhibit hall.

Taste of Fame - We were proud to partner once again with WCNY, the public television station for Syracuse, on their annual Taste of Fame event held at the Oncenter in Syracuse. This year's celebrity chef was Vivian Howard
Chef Richard Blais returned as this year's Master of Ceremonies.

To create the red hot ambiance in the room, we used a textured mesh panel backdrop with lighting effects. The programming was delivered through utilization of two  AV Stumpfl Screens with a pair of   Christie Roadster HD Projectors.

Just Breathe Foundation CF Christmas Bal l - We turned the Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center into an ice palace for the 2018 Cystic Fibrosis Christmas Ball. This is an annual event  that helps raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis and helps fund the Just Breathe Foundation. The graphics ran off laptops, and lighting effects were created using LED Pars, moving lights, and a  Mac Aura Led Moving Head.  Christie Roadster  Projector and a  Roland HD Video Switcher
helped create the magic.
Kin Event Space, the Newest Event Facility in Town

Kin Event Space, the brainchild of Kristin Klock-Wattie who owns Root Catering, opened last week in an exciting space behind Living Roots Wine & Co .

Kin Event Space Manager Shannon Klymochko shared, " Root Catering has been around for eight years, and the owner recently decided to open an events space in a former shipping warehouse at the edge of Rochester's historic NOTA district.

Shannon explained that they're excited about repurposing the building, maintaining hints of its original design. They have not added a lot of additional design elements, in order to be able to hold any type of event from corporate affair to wedding. It's essentially a blank slate so let your imagination take flight! The space can accommodate from 120 to 150, plus dance floor for a seated event, or up to 200 for a cocktail reception.

"We have a full bar, with a seasoned bartender who creates craft cocktails as part of the bar package, and although we offer great catering onsite, with a full menu selection, we don't require use of our caterer.

"We're really looking forward to helping to build the community."

PSAV Acquires Encore Event Technologies: What It May Mean

Earlier this year, the AV giant PSAV acquired Encore Event technologies, formerly owned by Freeman Company, in what has been a series of strategic takeovers that started in 2012, designed to eliminate competition in the marketplace. What it means for the meetings market is that there will be a monopoly across hotel properties by PSAV, a company not known for competitive pricing.

Some hope that, since hotels derive income from commissions off in-house AV contracts, the hotels may look for financially creative ways to attract meetings, which could help with meetings costs.

Many professionals, however, are concerned that this spells bad news for meetings professionals trying to control budgets. In an article by Julius Grafton , he points to one planner who needed standard connectivity wifi with 20 mb up and down. Expecting a bill of around $300 per day, she thought there was an error when the quote came through at $7,080 per day. When she discovered the quote was correct, she went out to a  T Mobile store and purchased a WiFi hotspot for $71.

As more news becomes available on the acquisition and ways to counteract the impact, we will keep you posted.
