Thank you to everyone who made the 2019 GVCO/GVBL Annual Fundraiser such a great success! Congratulations to Vince McAneney & Chris Anderson on winning the Cornhole Tournament! Special thanks to our outstanding event coordinators - Kim Biddle and Lauren Naylor - and to our Temple University Intern, Daniel Hoban!

We would also like to thank
The Desmond for hosting the Hoedown Throwdown and the
Desmond Project student volunteers who helped set up the event!
This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Desmond Project, a unique partnership program that connects Great Valley High School students with The Desmond, a Doubletree by Hilton hotel. Acknowledged as the only program in the nation to offer high school students an advanced working relationship with a local business, The Desmond Project allows students to encounter real-life learning experiences in a hands-on business application. Approximately 1,400 Great Valley students have participated in the Desmond Project since its inception.
Students have collectively raised nearly $500,000 for scholarships and various charities, and the annual Senior Citizens’ Luncheon and Student Achievers’ Banquet have become woven into the fabric of the Great Valley community.

What a Hoedown!
This was the theme for this year’s GVCO/GVBL annual fundraiser. Kim Biddle and Lauren Naylor did a masterful job of coordinating a group of ambitious volunteers to throw one heck of party. Over 250 cowgirls and boys rustled up their boots and moseyed down to The Desmond for hours of fun with friends and neighbors from the community. There was a cornhole tournament, silent and live auctions, ring toss for bottles of wine, raffles and more…with a DJ entertaining throughout. At the end of the night there appeared to be a smile as wide as Texas on every face.
This signature GVBL event, culminating nearly 6 months of basketball in our community league, has been going on for 15 years now. There has been tons of themes. We have tried multiple venues. Some are more elegant, some are casual. And the food is always great. But the constant, year in and year out, are the people. Every year is the same...just a big party for anybody in the community who wants to join in on the fun! You see people you saw the day before at Wegmans or the Acme, and you see people you haven't seen for years. You see some of your neighbor's parents, and you see some of your neighbor's kids. It's like a gigantic indoor block party and the "block" incorporates the entire Great Valley community!
Thanks Great Valley for being great! If you were there, it was fun hanging out with Y'all. If you missed it, dont worry, it's gonna be even better next year!

We want to reengage you and encourage you to display our "Give a little, GET A LOT!" yard signs as we empower the entire Great Valley community to make a difference and contribute to the new community center.
We will not get the necessary financing to complete the project without raising additional funds.
Our immediate goal is to raise an additional $1 million!

Challenger Gym started off with a bang last Wednesday! A record number of fifteen children are signed up to participate. Lots of action as amazing high school volunteers helped children zoom on scooter boards, run relay races and just have fun. More high school volunteers are needed for this lively group. Please email Wendy Morris at

for more details.
The emphasis is on having fun, providing physical activities and forging relationships between kids with special challenges and GVHS buddies.

Business Sponsor Spotlight

In business for 19 years, The Tropical Travelers is locally owned and operated by Jennifer Byrne, a Malvern resident for as many years. With 25 years in the travel industry, Jennifer has had the opportunity to travel the world in search of fantastic vacation spots for her clients. The Tropical Travelers was initially built as a company creating custom tropical honeymoons. Over the years, quite a few consultants were added on with specialties all over the world and their niche has morphed from just honeymoons to family travel, Destination Weddings, group vacations, incentives/meetings and more.
Travel agencies as you know them to be have gone the way of VCR’s and flip phones. Bespoke vacation companies are here to stay and are thriving because the public has become overwhelmed with choices, reviews and information online. The Tropical Travelers are exceptional at matching their clients with the perfect vacation because they know the resorts, the locations and the best people on property to wow their clients.
The Tropical Travelers pricing is competitive with Internet pricing, they don’t charge fees and by working with them you will experience the resort in a completely different way than the masses due to the relationships they’ve cultivated over the years. Why do the research on your next vacation when The Tropical Travelers can create your dream experience!

The Frankenheimer Family
"My family felt it was a 'no brainer' to donate to the GVCO mission and new project. Our dearest friendships were formed at GVBL/GVFL/GVCO and to make that a solid reality for future generations was a priority. My life has been filled with amazing memories at our center/community, and to think we don't even have a 'real center'. I can only imagine the lives that will be touched by the new center and how it will enhance our community." - Mary Fran
The Frankenheimer Family is excited about the future of GVCO. Bob grew up in Malvern and came back to the area after college. Bob, the manager of Southern Brogan Landscaping, and Mary Fran, the assistant athletic director at Malvern Prep, found a place where they wanted to volunteer and raise their family. Their sons participated in GVFL and GVBL. Mason is now attending the Pennsylvania College of Technology, Gavin is a senior at GVHS and Cooper is a sophomore at Malvern Prep.
"As we transition into empty nesters we look forward to finding a place at the GVCO Center. I love GVCO - the people, the mission and it's future!"
