MARCH 2019

A Message from the President and Founder, Lauren Genkinger

It was a short retirement because Palma Young, who has been with AGA
for nearly 15 years and has held almost every position in the organization,
came back to serve as Vice President, Dog Operations and I will focus
only on the business side.  Speaking of business, I am happy to announce
two new board members:

DAVE HOUSTON will be our Treasurer.  Our CPA Firm Helton/Schuetze CPA, LLC
and our fabulous bookkeeper Christine Siegenthaler will work with Dave directly.
Dave has worked for not-for-profits his entire career.  He spent over 20 years
with the national office of the American Cancer Society in Business Development
and Fundraising and building relationships among donor supporters.  His last job
with the ACS was at the National Director Level.  Dave then went to the
Alzheimer's Association where he was Vice President - Business Development
for the State of Georgia.  Dave and his wife Julie have given their time to
Golden Rescues for many years.  In fact, Dave and Julie were literally AGA's
first foster family and have continued to foster for us to this very day
(currently fostering Robin).  It is an honor to have someone with Dave's
experience, expertise and caliber on our board serving as Our Treasurer.

PHIL COOPER is a partner with one of Atlanta's largest law firms Nelson,
Mullins, Riley & Scarborough and joins the AGA Board in a new position
as Director of Legal Affairs.  At Nelson Mullins, he is a member of the
corporate and securities group, focusing his practice on mergers and acquisitions,
joint ventures, debt and equity finance, and general corporate counseling.
At AGA, Phil's focus will be on our Corporate 501c3 status with the IRS to
ensure that we are always in compliance.  We also want to use our strength within
the State to change and adopt laws to benefit the lives of golden retrievers and
all dogs.  Phil and his wife Karen are adopters of rescue dogs - an AGA
golden retriever, now known as Hank and his sibling, a black lab from Atlanta Lab
Rescue.  Yes, the first thing Palma had Phil do was sign his Volunteer Waiver!

This completes the required fulfillment of all
officers within AGA for the 2019 year term.
We have 4 Officer Positions:
  • President/CEO - Lauren Genkinger
  • Secretary - Palma Young
  • Treasurer - Dave Houston
    Phil Cooper
With Dave and Phil and having Palma back to run dog operations, AGA is in
a very good place.  We are poised to do great things like we always have.
Soon, we will be launching new community outreach programs you will be
asked to help with.  Back to retirement!

Thank you for your friendship and support of AGA.

With much gratitude,

TEAM MEMBERS WANTED - WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Do you have an interest in helping our orphans find their forever homes?
We need volunteers on all of our teams, with immediate needs on:

Medical Team
  • Coordinators: These coordinators work very closely with the Intake Team and
are responsible for managing the care of the dogs until the dog leaves the vet
    or goes to boarding.
  • Adoption Day: Volunteers needed for
    • Dispensing heartworm and flea/tick preventative to dogs in attendance
    • Examining any dog whose foster is concerned about a medical issue.
    • Ensuring that all dogs have their medical envelopes.
  • A dedicated vet appointment maker volunteer
  • Someone to keep the webtool updated
Foster Team
  • Foster Coordinators: The foster coordinators are responsible for placing dogs
into appropriate foster homes, providing general guidance to the foster when
a dog is in their home, and ensuring the foster has everything they need - collar, leash, tag, crate, all medical records, and adoption kit.
The foster Coordinator is the main contact for their foster for the first 48 hours after an orphan is placed in the home.
  • Foster Screeners: The foster screener is responsible for processing new applicants who wish to foster dogs.  They will conduct the telephone interview with the applicant, call vet references, and arrange for a home check for the foster applicant.

If you can help, please click here and submit the application.
