Billabong Zoo experience
Mid Coast Connect team members Sue Green and Linda Taylor attended an evening with the Wauchope Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted by the Billabong Zoo in Port Macquarie.
After the Chamber of Commerce updates, all the guests were treated to a private after-hours tour of the zoo.
The growth of the zoo, in size and species, has been an amazing local achievement for a small zoo. The zoo is unique in many ways; specifically the keepers have hand reared many Lions and Cheetahs, including 4 month old Amari (pic below) who was unable to stay with his mother and needing a keeper to sleep with him each night.
The zoo works closely with TAFE to deliver animal related courses. Mark Stone (owner) was excited to show us where his new monkeys are going to live, including the worlds smallest monkey, a pygmy marmoset. Mark is a valued supporter of our Work Placement program, and we thank him for that.
Mark Stone (Pictured with Daughter Brooke) has been a wildlife advocate his entire life and owner of the Billabong Zoo since 2003.
Teacher Industry Networking day
Mid Coast Connect hosted a Teacher Industry Networking day for Department of Education high school teachers to gain knowledge and insight in local business on the Mid North Coast. The pictured trip was a Primary Industries tour and our wonderful industry hosts were Kempsey Saleyards, Hydroponic Growers and Macleay Valley Apiaries.
