President's Message

Last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, I, along with fellow Executive Committee members Catherine Harvie, Shara White, and Shelley Sullivan, traveled to Tallahassee in order to participate in the FFRW convention. We heard from Senate President, Bill Galvano, and Attorney General, Ashley Moody, and several others who came to speak with more than 80 members of the Florida Federated clubs from all over the state of Florida. As part of our visit, we went to the capital and met with elected representatives, attended committee meetings, and watched as citizens petitioned their government. Whether in the hallways, or private offices, or meeting rooms, the capital was buzzing with activity.

At some point, everyone should take the time to visit the capital during a legislative session. Better yet, find a bill that is of interest to you and track it through the house or senate websites. Write to the bill sponsor, or to your district representative or senator and express your support or opposition, and/or plan to attend a committee meeting where you have the chance to speak as well as listen.

My take away is that most folks are in public service to do something good, and I was reassured that Floridians are in good hands. However, electing the right people is only the beginning. Success demands that we stay engaged. We should never presume that our legislators have all the answers. They do not. Your insight from experience, education, or career could prove useful on a particular issue and help avoid bad legislation or unintended consequences. Remember, if they do not hear from you, then they hearing from somebody else. Be selective, but do not be silent.
May God continue to bless us,

 Bonnie Jackson

He will be joined by Kevin D. Sibley, Deputy Special Agent in Charge for Homeland Security Investigations for the Tampa, Florida area. Mr. Sibley has managed and supervised investigations involving human smuggling, human trafficking, human rights abuse, weapons and technology trafficking, immigration fraud, and cyber and cryptocurrency cases.
