OhioMTA has lost a dear and devoted member of our leadership team.
Karen Jean Campo, 57, of Medina, OH passed away on February 26th 2019 with family by her side after battling a resurgence of breast cancer.
She was born to Jane Weaver and James Aker on April 5th, 1961 in Kalispell, MT. Karen graduated from Flathead High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Music in 1983 from the University of Montana and her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance in 1985 from Western Michigan University.
She was married to Mark John Campo in 1985 and is survived by her children Andra (Bryan) Dennis and Jack (Brianna) Campo, grandson, Asher Campo and her siblings, Jim (Sonja) and Robin (Jeff).
Karen was an accomplished pianist for over 50 years. She passed her love and dedication of music to hundreds of students over the course of 34 years. In addition to her love of teaching, Karen was known as a master crafter and created many beautiful things. While she enjoyed crafting and piano, family was her main focus. She loved and was immensely proud of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and grace.
Karen was serving on OhioMTA's current Executive Committee as Vice President-Affiliated Districts.
From 2016-2018 she served as Vice President-State Conferences. She will be sorely missed. Plans are currently underway for OhioMTA to honor Karen’s memory in a meaningful and lasting way.
