Garthe Named Recipient of Campus Research Board Grant
 
Assistant Professor, Rachel Garthe has been named the recipient of a Campus Research Board grant from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research for her project, Perceptions of School Climate in Relation to Youth Violence, Mental Health, and Academic Outcomes among Middle School Students.
 
 
William Schneider from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign School of Social Work; Lindsey Bullinger of Georgia Tech; Megan Feely and Kerri Raissian from the University of Connecticut won an award from The National Foundation to End Child Abuse and Neglect for Research Category for Disruption for their paper "Heed Neglect, Disrupt Child Maltreatment: A Call to Action for Researchers," on how the disruption of child maltreatment must prioritize neglect prevention. 
 
Study: Families' Experience of Pediatric Onset Multiple Sclerosis
 
Parents of a child with pediatric onset multiple sclerosis may need long-term supports from mental health professionals and advocacy organizations to cope with the emotional and financial impact the disease has on their family, according to a new study co-written by Theodore Cross, senior research specialist at the School of Social Work's Children and Family Research Center.
 
Study: Periodic EITC Payment, Financial Stress and Wellbeing 
 
In a longitudinal study, professor Flavia Andrade and her co-authors examined the relationship between an advanced periodic payment of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and recipients' wellbeing. Findings showed that periodic payment recipients experienced significantly lower levels of perceived financial stress due to factors such as: less need to borrow money, lower levels of food insecurity, and fewer unpaid bills.
 
Illinois to Host National Perinatal Depression Research Engagement Symposium
 
Join us to learn more about contemporary research findings in perinatal mental health research and learn about Patient Centered Outcomes funded research led by the patient-researchers themselves. The objective of this workshop is to build the capacity of patients, stakeholders, and researchers to better engage in comparative and effectiveness research through plenary talks, poster sessions, and round-table discussions. 8 CEU's are available.
