Chuck's Corner

As we all adjust to the impact that the COVID-19 virus has had on our world recently, I would like to offer some information about my company:

Merritt Environmental Consulting Corp. (MECC) has been monitoring the corona virus situation like everyone else. Several years ago we invested in technology that allows all MECC staff members to work remotely if needed. We tested our system's capacity on March 11, 2020 and began offering the flexibility of our staff to work in that capacity as requested.  We upgraded our server capacity so every employee has that function. In addition, calls placed to our office will go uninterrupted as MECC's phone system has the capability to forward calls to designated staff members. I am confident in the  business continuity plan that we have implemented

I have spoken with our inspectors and they are willing to continue with field assignments as needed. Many of our inspectors typically leave their homes in the morning and travel directly to their inspection sites.  They use electronic means to forward reports, photos, etc. to our main office so they do not have daily contact with the office staff. As a local firm serving the tri-state area, we do very little travel by plane thus minimizing the threat of being exposed to other travelers that may be ill. We do have a satellite office in Davie, Florida that independently serves the Florida market as needed.

Should the need arise, please feel to contact me on my cell phone or email using the following contact information:

We as a nation will get through this as we have during past tragedies and catastrophes.
May you and your families remain safe.

Featured Project

MECC recently represented a client with the closing out of a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) spill event. The spill was recorded several years ago during a due diligence investigation by a perspective buyer. The transaction was never finalized and the property owner was not aware of the open spill number. During a recent refinance with a local lender the open spill event came to light. As the lender's chief credit officer was worried about the stigma of the open spill, he reached out to MECC. During that conversation it was outlined that the owner was looking to do some renovations with the proceeds of the refinancing. It was also conveyed that an out of service oil tank remained in the alley way many years after the building had converted to natural gas. This also appeared to be the area that the previous investigation discovered some localized soil contamination. MECC worked with a reputable firm to remove the old buried oil tank. During the excavation MECC obtained soil samples from the open pit. A representative from the NYSDEC was on site during the tank removal and also witnessed the site conditions. Upon receiving "clean" soil samples, MECC submitted a report to the NYSDEC and obtained a closure to the spill event. The information was then presented to the lender who in turn scheduled an expedited closing for their borrower.
