The March 3 primaries decided the major-party nominees in all local races, but Comal County voters will return to the polls in May to decide nominees in statewide runoff elections.
The runoffs will take place Tuesday, May 26, but voters who were not registered to vote in the March elections can participate in the runoffs if they register by April 27. Early voting will be for one week, May 18-22.
Democrats will select nominees for U.S. Senate and railroad commissioner, while Republicans will pick nominees for State Board of Education District 5 and (in the eastern part of the county along Interstate 35) U.S. House District 35.
The March 3 primaries settled the nominees for the November general election in two local races: Precinct 1 Commissioner Donna Eccleston and Precinct 3 Commissioner Kevin Webb will both face challenges from Democrats. All other local Republicans are running unopposed in November, including incumbent constables in Precincts 3 and 4, who beat challengers in their respective primaries.
Comal County will have a new tax assessor-collector, as Kristen Hoyt defeated Patrick Aten to replace the retiring Cathy Talcott, and a new Precinct 1 constable, with Randy Motz defeating Chris Braun to replace the retiring Ben Scroggin.
