A message from Dr. Smith - #KStateStrong
Cargill Lunch and Learn
Cargill hosted a Lunch and Learn with K-State women in recognition of International Women’s Day to show young women that a career in the plant environment is not only possible but fun! 

The team in Cargill Topeka is more diverse than most teams in this industry, with a female plant manager, female maintenance supervisor, and multiple female operators.
IAOM Spring Technical Conference and Joint District Meeting
A group of M illing Science  Club students attended the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Spring Technical Conference and Joint District Meeting.
American Society of Animal Science Conference
The Feed Science research team traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, in early March to attend the Midwest Section of the American Society of Animal Science Conference.
IMEF Silent Auction Donation
The Milling Science Club donated two gift baskets for the International Milling Education Foundation (IMEF) silent auction.

The IMEF is the philanthropic partner of the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM). IMEF solicits, manages and distributes funds for educational programs related to the grain milling industry.


Appropriate Scale Mechanization Consortium (ASMC)
Dr. Carlos Campabadal traveled to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, from March 8 to 13 to work as PI on the Appropriate Scale Mechanization Consortium (ASMC) of the USAID Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sustainable Intensification (SIIL).

The goal was to check on the progress of each of the research projects of the value chain of corn and vegetables from planting to harvest, including irrigation. The team conducted a farmer survey to check on the results of the implementation of the technologies. Dr. Campabadal also presented a lecture on corn post-harvest technologies to the Bahir Dar Institute Technology faculty and graduate students.

Society of Bakery Women Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to this year's Society of Bakery Women Scholarship winners! 

The winners, Casey Hilte, senior in Bakery Science, Christy Vavra, senior in Food Science, and Fernanda Cantu Corona, sophomore in Bakery Science, were presented with their scholarship awards by Lee Sanders of the  American Bakers Association .
