Ashes of Hope

We begin our Lenten journey this year on February 26th with Ash Wednesday and it ends 40 days later, not counting Sundays, on April 11 on Holy Saturday (or the Vigil of Easter). Lent is an important time for Christians as we reflect on our relationship to Jesus who is arrested, persecuted, hung on a cross till he dies, and then rises from the dead to make sin, death and the devil nothing to us.

Save the date and come to LWR Quilt-a-thon the last weekend of March. The tops, backs, and batting are ready to put together into beautiful warm quilts for those in need of help, be it war, conflict, earthquake, flood, or other major disaster. It’s simple—pin the edges and tie knots to hold all three layers together!
Try to imagine what it would be like to have to flee with your loved ones with nothing but the clothes on your back. Let’s band together to reach our goal of 75 quilts. Last year, quilts supplied by FLC were distributed to Mali, Armenia, Tanzania, Iraq and Djibouti. Our personal care kits went to Mauritania, Zimbabwe, Lebanon, Mali and Tanzania, and our fabric kits went to Mali and Armenia.
All men, women, youth, and young adults are needed! Bring a friend!

A Word of Thanks:
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the Sunday, February 9, Youth Auction! Over $20,000 was raised and over 110 people attended this annual event. Special thanks to Dale Amundsen, who volunteered his services as our auctioneer. Over 35 youth and adults helped with this year’s auction! Thank you again for all of your hard work and efforts!  We are richly blessed to have such a strong response from the congregation. The generosity and support to the Children, Youth and Family Ministries is truly amazing and very much appreciated!

Come Sing with the Choir during Lent!
The Sanctuary Choir is beginning to rehearse the cantata for Good Friday's Tenebrae service. We’d love to have some extra voices. There are some familiar hymns and songs in the cantata, along with some reading parts. We rehearse Thursday nights from 7-9 pm during Lent and 7-8:30 pm during ordinary times. We invite all that like to sing to join us. If you have questions, please contact Lucy Kay Osborne at lkosborne@flcbothell.org or 425-823-9793.

Scrip and Other Passive Fundraising for First Lutheran Church!
We have several opportunities for earning money while you shop for FLC's many social ministry programs:
  1. Buy Scrip on Sunday mornings or sign up for Shop with Scrip. Many vendors are available for instant purchase and redemption from your mobile phone in the Shop with Scrip program. No more writing checks; the money is automatically deducted from your checking account using Presto Pay. (The profit margin for scrip is not great enough to support credit card payments.) Scrip returns anywhere from 3 - 12% of your purchases to FLC! You can buy grocery cards, movie tickets, Amazon, even Groupon - the list is great!
  2. Sign up for Amazon Smile and name First Lutheran Church as your charity. Every time you shop with Amazon Smile FLC receive .05% of your purchase price. You can still use Amazon Prime. Get your kids to sign up, too!
  3. Link your Fred Meyer rewards card to their Community Rewards program for First Lutheran Church. All of your purchases will result in a quarterly donation to FLC.
  4. Sign up for Bartell's B Caring Program, and name First Lutheran Church as your charity.
