Amid Coronavirus, ASAE urges White House to support associations
On Friday, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told CNBC that the White House is considering federal support to help industries and workers impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19). In response,  ASAE sent a letter to the White House urging the Trump Administration to include associations in financial support to the travel and tourism industry as a result of COVID-19). In the letter, ASAE urges the White House to include tax-exempt associations suffering from event cancellations and reduced meetings attendance in any federal aid package. In addition, ASAE asked the White House to include tax-exempt entities in any temporary aid designed to stem the economic fallout resulting from COVID-19.

Susan Robertson, CAE, President and CEO of ASAE, said "meetings are the lifeblood for many associations and tax credits or other federal assistance are greatly needed to protect associations' limited revenue streams and ensure tax-exempt organizations can continue to fulfill their important missions to the benefit of society."

ASAE encourages association professionals with appropriate contacts at the White House to share this message. To receive the latest ASAE updates and access a daily coronavirus tracker, sign up for the Associations Now Daily newsletter. In addition, there is a comprehensive coronavirus resource page on  asaecenter.org   with various links that we update regularly. ASAE debuts 'Stronger by Association' podcast
ASAE is debuting a 10-episode "Stronger by Association" podcast this year to celebrate 10 years of The Power of A campaign. The first episode, focused on the global impact of associations, is available for download on The Power of A website.

Hosted by ASAE Vice President of Public Policy Mary Kate Cunningham, CAE, the inaugural episode includes guests Arlene Pietranton, PhD, CAE, CEO of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Chair of The Power of A Oversight Committee; Antony Duttine of the Pan American Health Organization; and Greta Kotler, CAE, who oversees ASAE's global outreach efforts. Ashley Roberts, volunteer liaison to the ASAE International Section Council, co-hosts the episode. Special thanks to Factum Global for underwriting the first episode.

Future episodes of the podcast will focus on associations' power to solve problems, the power of diversity and inclusion, and the power of civil discourse, among others. Pennsylvania Government to Levy Tax on Membership Fees
The state's Department of Revenue recently issued a ruling saying that membership fees to join a professional association are taxable if members receive tangible personal property in exchange for their dues payment.
