Park District Canceling Public Community Events and District Programs with 50 or More
in Attendance
All Regional Parks, Trails, and Open Spaces
Remain Open to the Public

The health and safety of our visitors and employees
is the Park District’s top priority. As a park agency representing two counties – Alameda and Contra Costa – the East Bay Regional Park District is proactively monitoring all information regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) from local, state, and federal health agencies and is following all guidance and recommendations.
Based on Alameda County Public Health Department and Contra Costa County Health Services recommendations, and out of an abundance of caution, the Park District is canceling all public community events, programs and special use permits with 50 people or more in attendance District-wide beginning Wednesday, March 11, 2020 through Sunday, March 29, 2020. This does not include private events scheduled through District concessionaires. Full refunds will be provided for cancelled events.
Also, in response to COVID-19, and to support our customer decisions regarding cancellation of events, the Park District is waiving all cancellation fees and providing full refunds to users for events scheduled through April 30, 2020.
We thank the public for their cooperation and understanding during this rapidly evolving situation.
All Regional Parks, trails, and open spaces remain open to the public.

Regional Park at Alameda Point Moving Forward
A MESSAGE FROM GENERAL MANAGER ROBERT E. DOYLE
|
A new 158-acre Regional Park at the Naval Air Station Alameda, commonly referred to as Alameda Point, took a significant step forward recently with the both the Park District and city of Alameda agreeing on the size and location of the future park.
An agreement approved by both agencies outlines the process for the planning, development, and operation of the new shoreline park, and terms for the Park District to lease the property from the city. Sale of the property is prohibited.
The future park is yet another example of the Park District’s recent efforts to transform inaccessible, obsolete military bases into Regional Parks benefiting the public. Regional Parks are also being created at the Concord Naval Weapons Station and Oakland Army Base.
Creation of the new Regional Park at Alameda Point will take many years of planning and additional funding. Thankfully, Measure WW passed in 2008 provides $6.4 million toward creation of the new park.
See you out in your Regional Parks!

Top Regional Park Vistas
High Ridge Loop Trail, Dry Creek
|
Dry Creek Pioneer Regional Park shares a contiguous border with its sister park Garin Regional Park, making multiple loop possibilities through the rolling hills of Union City. Dry Creek features open, grass-covered hills and ridges offering great views of the Bay Area. The park feels remarkably quiet and remote, even though Hayward is just a stone’s throw away.

New Bay Trail Connection Enhances Recreation, Green Transportation
|
Thanks to your support of Measures WW and CC, a new one-mile segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail near Albany Beach is nearly complete – creating a continuous 18-mile trail segment from Oakland to Richmond. The project also restores beach habitat and improves public access at Albany Beach, including additional parking, restrooms, and picnic tables. Grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies are scheduled for April 25 to coincide with Earth Day events, pending COVID-19 health advisories. Watch for the event announcement in our next issue!

Support our Four-Hoofed Firefighters
|
Grazing animals have been part of the ecosystem of the East Bay for several thousands of years. Their presence, as well as common occurrences such as wildfire and drought, kept vegetation in check. Cattle are large animals but are not aggressive by nature. However, if aggravated or threatened, they can respond, especially to off-leash dogs. To protect cattle in the important role of managing vegetation, the Park District recently updated
Rules and Regulations: Ordinance 38
, requiring that all dogs be on-leash when grazing animals are present.

Point Pinole Pier ADA Fish Cleaning Table
|
Access for All:
Celebrating 30 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act
|
Staff-driven innovations have provided some of the most successful solutions in the Park District’s efforts to improve accessibility for visitors. An example of this type of innovation is the pier at Point Pinole, which lacked accessible fish cleaning tables. Taking staff and public input into consideration, this high-low table was designed and built by now-retired Park District carpenter Jerry Hirst to better accommodate everyone. The low table height provides ADA accessibility while the high table height accommodates those without disabilities. This design is now the Park District standard for replacing existing or installing new fish cleaning tables.
