How is it March already?
It's officially been A WHOLE YEAR since Covid-19 started sending us all indoors.

Yep, a year.
Malarkey indeed, Mr. President.

Thankfully, there's light at the end of this tunnel! With vaccines rolling out now, we're starting to dust off our passports and dump the sand out of our suitcases from that beach vacation in 2019. Travel opportunities are coming back soon!

In this edition of our monthly newsletter, you can find the same great resources as always plus some new updates. So please, for the love of Pete, put down the Cheetos and read our newsletter!

Study Abroad is now Global Learning!

As the world changes, so must we!

The types of programs that we are able to help you participate in continue to grow, and as it does, our office represents much more than just study abroad. There are domestic opportunities, internships, virtual programs...and more new things to come. Since we want to be inclusive of all the various things that we do, our office will be transitioning from Study Abroad to Global Learning. You may notice these changes as you explore our website or see emails from us, but rest assured that we're still the same bunch of passionate folks working to support you.

Scholarship Information & Deadlines
There are a ton of different ways that you can save on the cost of studying abroad/away. If you're not sure where to look, check out the Scholarships page of our website. There, you'll find important information about types of scholarships, advice on where to look and how to apply, and deadline information.
If you're considering applying for a study abroad/away program which takes place in winter/spring 2022, those applications will be opened on April 1, 2021. If you'd like more information, check out the website or set up an appointment with one of our Global Learning Advisors to talk through it.
Ashley Bayman
Ashley Bayman, a Global Learning Coordinator and Advisor, discusses studying abroad as a low-income, first-generation, transfer student of color in Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina.
Who Am I Abroad (WHOA) is a student series of videos and articles exploring the shifts in perception of the self while abroad or away. The purpose of these stories is to highlight the international and domestic experiences of students and staff in relation to their salient identities.

If you are an interested student and would like to be connected with a study abroad alum who has participated in your program or country of interest and shares your identity, please submit the Connect with Alumni Request Form, and we'll follow-up with you by email.
Program Exploration Tool
Not sure where you want to go or what you want to study?
We got you.

The Program Explorer is a great place to start if you’re not quite sure, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, or if you just need a space to brainstorm ideas and create a wishlist.
*in order to access the Program Explorer, you must be signed in to SlugsAbroad and have completed your Study Abroad Profile
Where to Start With Study Abroad or Away?
It can be intimidating when you're just starting to think about study abroad/away. There are a TON of options out there and it's difficult to know what your first steps should be.

Lucky for you, the advisors at UCSC are basically the A-Team of study abroad (minus the van). The website will walk you straight through the steps that you need to take, and if you'd rather talk to a human being, just schedule an appointment with an advisor and they'll give you a helping hand.

And don't forget that all the advisors now have virtual offices where you can find a ton of great resources and also schedule an appointment.
